EOTech Placement

You want to look through the optic and focus on your target. The reticule should not be your point of focus. This way, the reticule actually appears over your target and appears clear. If you're seeing dots comprising a circle, you're doing it wrong.

Putting holographic and red dots further away from your eyeball aids in this. Hopefully in the next 10 years or so some smart guy will figure out a holographic sight replacement for the frontsight post, so we can get rid of the stupid lump on top of the rifle.

Personally, I prefer as close to the eye as practical. I have no issues with focusing on the target, and one thing I don't like about mounting it far forward is how it seems to obstruct the view around the target, while mounting it close to the eye is a lot less disruptive to peripheral vision.

At the end of the day, it boils down to what feels more comfortable and what other stuff you have mounted on the rails.

I start with the magnifier, cheek weld and eye relief. then place the eotech as close to the magnifier as I can.

jingerale has it right re the magnifier use.

When not using a magnifier I prefer mine mounted to the rear as far as possible. You get the widest field of view possible, and don't lose sight of the reticle under recoil (less of an issue with .223).

Fov is a non-issue if you use the optic correctly (both eyes open)

In relation to the reticle, you get a wider field of view though, and the reticle won't kick out of sight. VERY fast follow up shots can be made with the EOtech closer in.

PS- I can only shoot with one eye. The other one doesn't work right, and God's warranty seems to have run out

If you find yourself consciously looking thru the sight to acquire your target, you're doing it wrong. The idea is to have the reticule floating in space on your target. The sight should really disappear with both eyes open. This is easier to accomplish with it mounted on the receiver as far from your eye as possible.

I prefer an Aimpoint T1 though. EOTech's work fine, but the housing is bigger/bulkier. The busy reticule only compounds the issue IMO and is another reason I switched over to the T1. Weight is the 3rd reason.
