EOTech Placement

Where is the best placement for an EOTech sight? I see some people run then far forward on the rail and then I see some all the way at the back of the gun. I know this will probably come down to personal preference but I wanted to see what you thought. I typically run mine toward the rear of the gun, but I would like some input and opinions.

If you're talking about a 512-series, there's a little raised "lip" under the battery compartment which I assume is to clear the delta ring. I usually wind up with the nose a bit over the edge of the upper receiver, but whatever eye relief you like is the right place.

It's personal preference. Some models can't sit as far forward, some people move them forward for better field of view, some people keep them back because they prefer the weight balance to the rear, etc.

I start with the magnifier, cheek weld and eye relief. then place the eotech as close to the magnifier as I can.

I have mine all the way at the rear very close to the bus.

Look at how pros use them.

This is a CQB optic (ie speed at close range), so it is usually ideal to mount it as far forward as possible.

Just remember that if you shoot a serious amount of ammo through a weapon with a electro-optic like the EOTech mounted on the front rail, you're going to get failures. Back in 2003-2005 timeframe guys at the pointy tip of the spear who shoot on average 50,000 rounds a year through their weapons were getting EOTech and Aimpoint failures from cumulative heat exposure. The average civilian shooter will probably not have this problem but it's something to be aware of if it's mounted on a duty weapon. Mounting on the upper receiver is fine and specific location is very much a personal preference.

I run a magnifier in tactical division , so mine sits right in front of the magnifier. When I shoot limited division, I just remove the magnifier and leave the Eotech in the same place.

Furthest forward rail notch still on the upper. Works perfectly for my magnifier
