    Pimp my SOCOM II?

I have the full cluster rail model. I like the Vltor M14 Modstock - or something along that line.

    Is it CA. legal?

Are there any other (quality) mods that anyone can recommend? Suggestions/ideas?

Troy MCS is better, but they both have pistol grips which waxxes your detachable mags.

Not unless you can make it a fixed-magazine rifle somehow. That would be a shame to do to such a fine rifle, IMO.

It is illegal to put a vertical grip or pistol grip on your Socom II, it needs to remain featureless or like others have said pin/lock your 10 round mag in place. Doing the latter is pointless, just learn to shoot your rifle with the basics first!

It would do you well to read the FAQ... with a detachable magazine, your rifle must have NO evil features to be CA compliant, so no forward pistol grip. Understand the law, obey it, and have fun.

Also, IMHO, the M1A (and friends) are beautiful rifles aesthetically, ergonomically, and all around just bad-***. Please dont butcher one.

Why not get the Sage EBR version for CA, if you really want a different stock?

Just one more reason I love our fine state sooo much - Please rest assured I won't be butchering my SOCOM, I just wanted to know what my options are. I sincerely appreciate the input.

So far the only accessory I have defiled my rifle with is a Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T.

Forget about the pistol grip, forget about the vertical grip.
keep the detachable mags that contain a very potent round.
I wouldnt trade my mags for either of those two trade offs.
I'm weird though, I just like being able to unleash a hail storm of 7.62 down range and reload quickly.

                    As far as mods go...
Get a smith extended bolt release
                    A Sadlak spring guide
Id recomend a good single point sling, 3 points are more trouble than they are worth.
If you want optics, I highly recomend the trijicon tri power

Every time I get a wild hair up my but about getting a pistol grip on my M14 or building a second one in a Sage stock with pistol grip and collapsible stock+mag lock I get slapped back to reality. I take my rifle to the range and enjoy the ability to drop the mag with no mmgs, u-15s, or tools. Then I reallize how good my rifle feels and balances.

Those other stocks look cool and all but the M14 just feels right to me without the extras.

That being said I think I might build a second one in a sage just for chits and giggles.

                        Blacky,
How do you like the Leupold? I was looking at that scope, but my concern was the 9MOA dot when on 1x magnification.

Really want to pimp your M1a? JAE stock. It isn't a pistol grip either, so you can keep your detachable mags.

I do not like the SOCOM II because the only thing legal in the PRK to put on that thing is a flashlight. I don't like all that extra weight the rail gives only to be able to put a flashlight on it.

                              I recommend a flashlight.
