First and last(?) time smashing my finger with an AR-15 bolt.

So I had a moment yesterday... wasn't sure if I put the gas tube in the right spot (didn't realize that it would only go all the way in if it was) and so I tried to slow the bolt with my finger... didn't work (duh)

So, I went into a slight bit of shock, remained calm, grabbed ice quickly, held it for a minute, remembered first aid knowledge and proceeded to drill my nail with my knife(releases the pressure of blood under the nail and prevents deeper bruising), then washed it with peroxide and wrapped it with a bandage.

Had a bit of nausea and a lot of cold sweat, but overall I did okay.

So now its bruised, but not NEARLY as bad as it could have been... I keep banging it on things >.<

Anyway, I learned my lesson, and Hopefully everyone else can have a laugh and not repeat the mistake.
My AR is 7.62x39, so that if/when we get invaded, I can shoot their ammo back at them!

before seeing the picture: ooh, this is going to be good
after seeing the picture: you drilled your nail and posted about it for that?

edit: I'm glad it wasn't too bad an injury, just wanted a pic to match what sounded like a painful mistake

      it looked worse yesterday... xD

I posted because I DIDN'T inadvertently amputate it, not because I did.

you can use the charging handle to let the bolt go slowly.

Slamming metal-to-finger contact... not so good.

Glad it worked out without stitches... I almost caught my palm in the the lady's SR9 like twice, almost got it in the M9 once, however I do steer clear of the WHOLE action of the AR... for sure. I think I had a few close calls in boot camp, and I break it open ALWAYS.

If you got bit by an ar15, I'd advise you to stay far away from M1a's and garands

I got bit by a Harris bipod. I don't even know how I did it. But all I know is it hurt like a MOFO.

I was breaking it open, but I couldn't without the bolt being released xD

Gain some pounds, I couldn't fit my finger in the action if my life depended on it!

                      Rookie move

You must be really inexperienced to make a mistake like this. Everyone knows you're supposed to smash your finger with a Garand bolt!

I'm glad it wasn't serious. Have fun shooting.

Ouch...Could've been worse though. One of my buddies has a swedish Ljungman AG42B. F**k up with that thing and it'll damn near amputate your finger.

You can't really apply for a Purple Digit award until you slam an M-1 bolt on your thumb.

Im really glad I read the comments and gave myself plenty of time to think about my own response... I was going to post a snyde comment then I realized that while I have not been bit by and ar-15 (knock on wood) I did manage to give myself a black eye while fixing a Winchester Model 77... Thanks for sharing your story! It keeps us all honest! glad you didnt get hurt any worse!

                              go with the force, Luke!

Could it be any clearer? Any law that infringes on our right to keep and bear arms is a violation of the Second Amendment and is unconstitutional.
