    New PWS range report

So I got my rifle a couple of weeks ago, and I finally got some time to head out to the range this weekend...apparently so did everyone else given the crowds. I have to say that this rifle is truly a pleasure to shoot. I just got the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot as well, so it would also give me a chance to get it dialed in.

I sent 150 rounds down range, and not a single hiccup, burp, malfunction, or issue. It's my first AR, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but everything was very smooth to operate and shoot. I was shooting Federal Lake City M855 5.56 x 45 mm 62 Grain Steel Core that I picked up from the LGS when I bought the rifle, and I'm pretty happy with it. An interesting side note on the rifle, it throws its brass towards the 1 o'clock position, so I'll never have someone on my right whining about my hot brass ruining their lives and causing years of therapy.

The first group was fresh out of the box on both the rifle and the sight, which obviously was a bit left. A few clicks later and things were looking really good. This was shooting out at 50 yards.

    Enjoy!

Good looking rifle, but you said it ejects at 1 o'clock?

Yep, it sure does. Sounds like that may not be a "feature" after all...

That "chart" is misleading doesnt even apply to his rifle. He has a piston rifle and that chart mainly applies to D.I. rifles. To the O.P., nice rifle and groups! Keep on shooting and dont even worry about that chart. Both my Daniel Defense and Colt carbines , both eject @ 1-2 oclock when using 5.56 ammo, but backed off to 3-4 oclock when shooting .223 ammo, and those are both new, complete factory carbines. Where did you get your rifle and where did you go shooting at? Most ranges in SoCal will not let us shoot Green tips because of the steel core making sparks and causing fires.

Thanks man, I really do love that rifle! I'm in northern california, and I shoot at the Laguna Seca range. It's nice because they have 100and 200 yard ranges, and gongs permanently mounted at 300 yards. They don't have any limitations on ammo, except for tracers and explosive rounds .

I got the rife from the Bay Area Gun Vault in mountain view. I had a really good experience buying the rifle, very friendly folks and a huge selection of black rifles.

Just posted it for his general info without realizing it was a piston system, I hear 1 o'clock ejection and the first thing that comes to mind is overgassing.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the design of the piston as most AK's I've shot chuck brass in the 1o'clock range.

I read some reviews on teh bay area gun vault, and past reviews had a lot of negative feedback for the personality and friendliness of the staff. I don't know if something changed, or if they got new employees, but I can't say enough good things about the staff. The first time I went in there, the owner and one other staff member gave me almost an hour and a half of uninterrupted time. I had their full attention, and not once did they try to up-sell me. In the end I went with the PWS because I liked the features and look of the rifle and I couldn't be happier. Originally it had black furniture, but I like the full FDE personally. I heard that PWS is discontinuing the FDE color schemes on their rifles, so I'm glad I picked this one up when I did.

Stop loitering on the 50 yard line.
