Another option is to watch the private sales here on calguns. My FTF experience with CG members has been great. Plus your not going to pay CA sales tax.

In my opinion, if you are going to spend money on an AR, it should be a .223/5.56. You will not have a problem with the recoil, just make sure you check out the weight of the gun before you buy it.
I saw that.. it's only $200 something at Big 5 lol
the lighter the better? S&W sport weight 6.45 lbs..

Yes it is very easy to change back and forth.

      I guess video always helps.
      Thanks!

You're welcome. I also added a video of a guy showing how quickly you can change between the setups. The video also shows recoil differences as he is shooting both 5.56 and .22. Amazingly he shoots both calibers through one rifle in a span of about 35 seconds.

My advice would be to first stop asking questions here. Then do a google search and read everything about the AR 15 platform. It is all easily accessible and very easy to read. Then if you have any questions after post them here.

For a potential CA AR owner, I think this forum is the best place to start. Maybe not as technical or numerous in information as other websites, but good for the beginner. One thing that might be more helpful through Google is finding video to show how easy all this AR stuff really is.

call me weird but I think a full sized A2 or A3 rifle length AR-15 are the best to learn on.
But I being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softely, because you tread on my dreams.

I'd agree, but at some point you have to consider the dimensions and physical strength of the shooter.

If I were a beginner I'd just walk into a store and buy either a S&W M&P15 Sport or a Colt M4 depending on my budget and as much ammo I can afford the day I pick it up. Then I'd either sign up for a class or go shoot with experienced AR shooters.

OP, if you're a beginner with a rifle all together, but are set on eventually getting a AR, I suggest maybe getting some trigger time with a .22lr with peep sights. My top 3 choices for that would be a S&W 15-22, Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 795(or 60) with Tech Sights installed.

I'm asking questions here cuz the info others post here is like a summary, requires less time to read.. and it's easy to read.. when I google something, it directs me to forums as well. so might as well asking here... I'm just looking for simple ideas, not digging into how to build one or how one mechanically works..

Thanks! my friend is an experienced shooter and he will teach me. I just need the right gun to start.. He suggested me to get the S&W MP 15-22 or the S&W sport plus a conversion kit. similar to what most of you are suggesting.. and it's what I'm going get..

Thank you all for your suggestions and info!

Check Tracy Rifle and Pistol. Best gun shop I've been to, and it's the second closest to me! Great guys and very good prices as far as local gun stores go. You have to remember there are a lot of fees when buying online like shipping and transfer that you don't pay when purchasing locally. So if the online prices are about 50-60 cheaper then what they are asking in store it's usually not worth it. Especially since gun stores will cut you deals on extra ammo, mags, gear, and accessories if you buy from them.
