The last time I did a mag inventory I counted the mags, the capacities, how many weapons, how much mag capacity total, and average capacity. I had well over a hundred mags, and I remember about 2500 rd mag capacity total. This was about 6 guns ago.
Do Garand clips and SKS stripper clips count?
I have about 2 dozen mags each for the RAW FAL and my M1A.
I also have about 2 dozen 1911 mags, but these are for 4 different .45 cal 1911's.

Thank you, but mine pales in comparison to countless others, wish I had done more, who knows, might get that wish in spades, careful what you wish for, right?

However, looking at it from a civilian POV, say in a SHTF situation, honestly mobility and having a low profile is the more important so I'd say one in the gun, and two to three spares. Honestly, if you find yourself in a protracted firefight you done F'ed up majorly. Heck, I'd personally avoid shooting period short of actually zombies unless I absolutely had no choice, better to go unnoticed.

I think to many "preppers" envision being involved in protracted firefights.
