          It's a back up iron sight. You want it to fold away from your primary optic otherwise, it eats too much real estate.

            The original design of peep sights like this are on Garands and M1 Carbines. The bevel is supposed to be the side unseen by the shooter (flat side towards shooter). Many "modern" BUIS got it wrong.

              If you were in the military the way Troy Industries designed their rear sight seems backwards. I took mine apart carefully and flipped it around. Just be very careful to not loose the tiny ball bearings inside.

                I don't trust a few marketing/advertising photos, especially when they conflict with each other on the same company's page and products.
