I've only ever used Matech BUIs before in the military, which are made with the bevel facing the shooter.

A friend of mine just bought a BCM upper with Troy BUIs, and I commented on how his sights were mounted backwards. His came from the shop with the bevel facing OUT, flat side towards the shooter. Troy's webpage shows the same thing. Additionally, the night-time (larger) aperture is the default sight when you do flip it up, as it's impossible (due to the design) to fold it down with the day-time sight selected. At 1:49 you can clearly see their sight mounted with the bevel out, and the shooter looking through the night-time aperture.
Now I'm confused. Which direction is the bevel SUPPOSED to face?
