I have talked to Colt mfg and Colt Defense several times since my last post and have been waiting for a distributor to get the LE6940CA in stock. I've found 2 gun stores that have located the gun for me, but they can't give me an accurate estimate as to when the distributors will have it in stock. So I'm going in tomorrow to pre-order the gun and wait it out. They are making me pay in advance...Ill let you know when it comes.
    @ Pags -
I found out about the SP6940CA through this post but I was, and still am interested in the 2012 Model listed in the Colt catalog (LE6940CA). The Colt representatives I talked to informed me that the SP Models have been replaced by the new LE models. And yes, they have the exact same features, but I'm holding out for the "new" one. Don't ask me why...

I also want the 12 so you are not alone, I was quoted $1,599 by Turner's. A bit torn, I could pick up a Ruger Mini 14 All Weather for an excellent price. I may go with the Mini and graduate to the LE 6940 when they are stocked and I can do a little better on price.

I bought a new 10 22 Carbine Stainless today which is a nice addition too... would go nice with the stainless mini...

Go to galleryofguns.com and setup an email alert to find out when they get one in stock. Usually when they get a bunch in stock, everyone else does as well. The nice thing about ordering from them is no one can beat their otd prices(they include the fees in their prices) and they also give you a lifetime warranty as long as your register it with them after you buy it.

LOL, I was about to buy that 6940 the same night you bought it from Peter. I ended up getting a 6920 from him, then I bought the upper separate from G&R Tactical. When I pick up the 6920 I'm just going to strip down the upper and sell it, so in the end I'll have a 6940 for actually a couple hundred dollars cheaper than if I bought a 6940 from the start!

I also can't find one online for order. I've also been told that the "LE" stands for law enforcement and that's why they can't sell it. But...the Colt 2012 Catalog section titled "Colt Carbines - California compliant" lists this rifle as " the premier model of this new family" and a colt CSR told me over the phone that these dealers " just need to place an order". Any help is appreciated.
doubledown, did you ever find one, and if so what are your feelings post sale? if you could also share where you got it, that would be appreciated

I have a SP6940CA that I got in Jan. It was my first rifle.

I absolutely love it. Has never misfired a round or not ejected a spent shell yet. The milled upper makes it very light weight for a quad rail setup. My buddies M&P15 sport with a aftermarket quad rail weighs a noticeable amount more.

I got it at Turners when they first released in Jan, but it wasn't easy they only had a few of the 40's. I had one transferred from another store.

Thanks Bran, i assume when you say turners that is Turners Outdoorsman in SoCal right?

I'm trying to find someone in NorCal, but thanks for the review information.

What's the deal with the 6920/6940CA? Limited run or is Colt just slow to release more?

I'm also in CA and interested in these Colt models, none in the area or online.

Tell me about it. No one around here has one and no one can tell me when they're going to restock-it's the craziest thing in the world. I have seen the 6920 CQB or whatever it's called, and the 6920 PD-I'd recommend picking those up as long as you're o.k. with the way it's set up...

I completely forgot about this post. Probably because I looked for a Colt LE6940CA for soooo long. I had two gun shops tell me that they would order it, but after months of waiting and no estimate of when they would have it, I gave up.

Anyway, I decided to build my own. I chose a Noveske Gen II lower with a JP Trigger and Magpul UBR Stock. I'm currently waiting on the Noveske NSR Rail and Recon Barrel to go with the Vltor MUR. I'll Post some pics when she's finished.

Drick - If you want to buy the Colt LE6940CA, it looks like you will have to wait until mid November. The SP6940CA is available now and I've seen it in a few gun shops in the Sac area.

That's the main reason why I chose the 6920 standard; I don't like the idea of an upper that has limited options for 'mods in case I ever decide to go that way. Plus, I know this is strange but I just don't like rails over the stock contoured hand guard. Other than that they're all the same rifle, pretty much...
