There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to begin.

It's obvious to me that You have very little experience with semiauto rifles in general and assault rifles in particular.

The Colt M4 was a fine weapon by yesterdays standards. But today, there are MANY rifles that are better. They are more accurate, more flexible, have better controls, and are more reliable.

It's fine. You go right ahead. The world needs to know where the "perfect assault rifle" resides. Personally, I'm intrigued to know what an $800 1x laser scope looks like.

Based on your other posts, this perfect being is probably located in the Bay Area (or perhaps Redding), and that creates a problem as there are too many places around here that have over priced EBR's for sale.
There are no great men. Just great challenges which ordinary men, out of necessity, are forced by circumstance to meet.

My point is/was that there is usually an apex gun in every category.

Colt in the M-4 platform, and its civilian-ized versions, appear to be it, in the semi-auto anti-personnel category. At least so it would seem now, to me.

The gunshops that I have frequented recently are Nice Shot in Redding, Eddy's in Mountain View, and Kerley's in Cupertino.

Nice shooting. I certainly can't do that.
15" at 100 yards? Would that be 45" at 300 yards? If so, that is completely a junk weapon. I shoot 40/40 regularly to qualify and I shoot from 25 to 300 meters. Standard Army qualification range. I understand the Marines shoot to 500 meters. 45" from center of target is a miss.

Yes, that would be 45" at 300 yds. He just mis-spoke originally and I was correcting the terminology. A minute is a fraction of a degree (1/60). A minute or minute of angle = 1" at 100 yds. (it's actually 1.0471996 inches, but 1" is close enough for rifle work). A degree of angle would be 60" @ 100 yds. 1/4 of a degree would be 15" @ 100 yds.

The MOA on it is less than 1/4 degree. In other words, the bullets almost go through the same hole and they are always at least touching at 100 yds.

Price tag on the rifle I saw is $1500 and on the scope separately is $800. The scope is nice, with absolutely no parallax, no matter where you put your cheek on the stock/rest.

That's not that far off in price from my Remington model 700 in .300 RUM package with scope. About the same accuracy too.

So this seems like the perfect CQB weapon. After 40 years of development the DOD finally got this right.

However Colt and the DOD have put these assault rifles together so perfectly that the kids of today in the Army and the Marine Corps become expert riflemen with them immediately, right out of the box.

And for about 500 yards, this gun/rifle is really perfect for these brave young kid soldiers.

It's too bad that when we were in, they did not have them. For me, the M-14 or the M-60 was the ideal.

The point is, that the AR-15 platforms have come a long way since the 1960s, and now they have finally reached their apex, with the M-4 (whatever the civilian California version model name is, which I did not ask about).

I understand the flack. But seriously, he might be knew to the Semi Automatic rifle platform and does not know all the technical terms yet. Lord knows thats how I was. My initial understanding of Semi Automatic rifles was stupid (to put it nicely). Im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. To OP, there are some really intelligent guys on here that can give you a myriad of information on the platform of your choice. Good luck with you future purchases and most of all, get out and shoot your rifles!!

                                And LMAO!!!!!!!
