    Dirt cheap, go to M-aparts.com
On the left hand side of the main page there is an index,

    Select "AR5/M16 kits"
    Select "5.56 Nato"
    Select 16" carbine , 20" e2 or 24" e2

and you'll get a kit to build a complete rifle except the lower receiver for $450

Buy one of DDs Ranch's $100 receivers and pay your transfer dealer and the DROS and a complete gun will run a little over $600.

What you will get is a a chrome moly non chrome lined barrel, an RRA LPK and generic furniture.

I have another question. How is the quality of RRA? How does it compare to Stag?

The reason I am asking is that I was visiting the RRA website and I saw that their complete CAR A4 kit is on sale (it has the upper, barrel, muzzle device, trigger, pistol grip, handguard, and buttstock). Normally it is $640, but they're selling it for 10% off and the shipping's even free. I can save myself a hundred dollars that way, bringing my rifle to under $700 before fees. I still need to pick up a stripped lower of course. Still, I think it would be a hell of a deal.

Am I right in that CA considers the stripped lower receiver the gun, and that it is the only part that needs to go through an FFL? Can I get the rifle kit shipped straight to my door? Will RRA even sell directly to me, or do I need to go to a dealer? Anyone sell RRA in the Bay? I'm not exactly sure, but is RRA an OLL?

Thanks again for the help guys.

BTW where can I get a bullet button?

RRA is about equal to stag.

Stay away from the cheap parts sellers like Blackthorne, Model 1, M&A etc...

Hesse is cheaper, but I would not recommend any of the "cheaper" places as I have had lots of those barrels thhrough my shop to be made functional.

To make it simple, pick up your RRA from Irvington. Order the rest from RRA and have them shipped to where ever you want it shipped to.

You can also check Coldwar Shooter or 10% for any other parts.

Technically, using a bullet button, they're not detachable . Just make sure to use only 10-round-or-less magazines.

Don't forget to pick out a rear sight (or optics, if that's your thing) if you get a flattop upper.

                        or

I usually tell guys they can get a basic build out of my shop for about $900-$1000. Just be forwarned your RRA upper might take 8-12 weeks to get it. I really like RRA products.

The lower is the only part that needs to go through an FFL.
Everything else can be mailed to your house. The manufacturers will sell you their uppers, stocks and LPKs at MSRP + shipping and most dealers can cut you a better deal than that.

You just missed a great sale over Thanksgiving weekend. Armalite was selling complete uppers for $350.

I'm in the bay area, and if you PM me, maybe we can get together. I have several OLL's and uppers you can check out and pick my brain on getting stuff together, tools needed, shortcuts, etc.

Once you have seen and touched a few things, it gets a lot clearer.

BTW - for new stuff that's not crap, Wes is not far off with his $900 - $1000. Add some good glass and you can more than double that. Some frugal shopping may trim $100 or so. Like I said, PM me and we can talk if you want. I can show you both successes and mistakes (better you learn them than experience them!)

                                All M&A stuff is bad?

I occasionally get detents, non critical springs, misc little stuff etc from them and I've never gotten a part that was out of spec.

I don't think I'd use them for uppers or major components but is the little stuff ok?
