I disagree with this part.

Because we're talking about long guns, it's Federal law - California GFSZ doesn't cover long guns.

Federal law doesn't have the 'public place' confusion, it just exempts private property.

If we had been discussing handguns then the driveway thing would probably correct.

Well I think the 1000' thing is obviously retarded this is good to know since I never knew about long guns having to be locked near school zones. One more reason not to talk to the police ignorance of the law won't protect you.
