I was in a local gun shop a few weeks ago (one of the newer ones with lots of evil looking rifles) and asked them if they would do an off roster pistol transfer to me from my parent in Texas. I used the term intrafamillial. I understood when they said NO. Didn't argue the point. They followed with "you would be better off going to Texas and buying it and shipping it back here for the transfer." After I regained my composure, I changed the subject. I'll still shop there, just have to drive a lot farther for some services.Comment

Someone else gave me the same advice, which turned out to be bad advice due to the length of the barrel.
did you read my post about when you take it off, if it is pinned it jacks up the threads because when you snap the pin it drags on the threads as you back it off. So you need a die to clean the threads up.
Then after the threads are cleaned up and you are even able to put on the MB, you then need to figure out a way to pin it again or weld it.
I am commenting on your post because I received all the same advice from people and it did not end well.

It's been a couple years since I've been in Fine Firearms, but, do they even sell modern "assault" rifles? If I'm remembering correctly all I ever saw there was wood and blued steel.
Is it really a crime if they chose to narrow their focus to certain types of firearms.
Since you imply that you directed your wife to shop there for Christmas, does that mean that you've been a happy customer there up until this incident?

You called them and asked them if they could do something for you and they answered with a "no". So, what's the big deal? Just because a mechanic offers services like a brake job on a Toyota that does not mean that he is willing to do a brake job on a Mazaratti. Maybe they don't have the right tools or maybe they just plain do not want the job. There is no crime in that. The FH is NOT pinned. Confirmed yesterday. Measured the barrel as well and it is 16 inches without the break\FH. Never the less, another gunsmith mentioned here is on board to do the work.

Yes, they have plenty of black rifles on the shelves. To your other statements, yes, directed the wife there because it was close to our house versus trekking up to Turners. And yes, customer service was always pretty good.
And finally, I disagree with your opinion that I am trashing them on this forum. As I stated above, I feel that it's all of our responsibilities to post good and bad dealings with shops local to us. Never did I call them names or tell anyone not to go there. Even on the phone with them I said "Thank you, I will be taking my business elsewhere".
I understand that no shop can be the end-all be-all for us gun owners, heck, even the range I shoot at, Project 2000, is frustrating in some regards. But I simply presented the information for the public's consumption.Comment

Yes, I totally respect what you are saying and agree somewhat.
And as I've stated numerous times, I simply made the post to inform the members here that if they own a SCAR, or any other type of rifle, FF might not do the muzzle break install after first saying yes, then saying no after they find out what kind of rifle it is.
Sadly, there is no Calguns vendor review section so I felt it appropriate to post my dealings.
Not unlike the posts regarding Buds, Big 5, Turners or any other shop where the dealings were good or bad. But thanks for your comments. Merry Christmas!
