    AR Performance 6.8 uppers

Looking to get an AR Performance 6.8 upper. Was wondering if anyone had some input on?

Are you looking an input on the 6.8 caliber itself?

I'm pretty sure I want a 6.8. I want to know if ar performance uppers are good, or what other brand may be better?

On 68forums.com AR Perfomance is very highly regarded. I've used some of his parts for peoples builds but currently don't have any of his parts on my 6.8's.

I would highly suggest spending some time on 68forums before pulling the trigger on a 6.8 AR.

They are GTG. I have a couple of their uppers and just love them. Will be buying more from them in near future.

I built my last 6.8 using their barrel and bolt. They are one of the best out there. Especially their bolts. If you are building your own, I highly recommend them. I don't have any experience with their complete uppers though.

Sorry for the silly noob question, but can a 6.8 upper fit on a standard AR (5.56), or do you have to make some chages to make it work?

              Thanks...

Yes you can run the same lower.

                  AR15Performance/ITS are good stuff.

The ITS bolts have several features that make them stronger in the areas where AR bolts can fail. I really want to use their "big bolt" and special barrel extension for a couple .458 SOCOM barrels.

I have one of their MK68 barrels which have a chrome lined Lothar Walther polygonal rifled barrel. They only made a few of those but it's nice and they used premium parts, no cut corners.

For those that don't know, a 6.8 SPC AR only needs three different parts, the barrel, the bolt and the magazine. Everything else is standard AR stuff.

As Nathan said, yes. I swap them around depending on what I am doing with them. If I am going out of state to go hunting, I put them on a regular lower, and swap out the bullet button when I get there. Here I mostly use a featureless lower. The only parts that are different are the bolt and barrel on the upper, and the magazine. I have never tried it, but supposedly you can get a few rounds to feed out of a standard 5.56 mag in a pinch.

I only get "around" 100 fps difference in my 20" and 16". For that little difference and the relativity large weight difference I now just use the 16" Also I brush hunt so I want light and handy with fast follow up shots for the sand pine or swamps I hunt in as its a lot of walking and stalking. Rarely do I stand hunt and that's the only time I break out the 20". Both are on the same lower. Matter fact the only AR I swap uppers on as the rest I want dedicated lowers for different capabilities.

Really the 6.8 is a short/med range cartage. I zero at 200 and am +-3" from muzzle to 300. Past that it drops like a rock but I can eyeball up to 300 and point and shoot, no need for me to hold over as the kill zone is typically around 6" so it is a perfect round for me as my shots are normally under 100. So with this 100fps means nothing. It is a great cartage for that distance though and is replacing old Betsy my 30/30 model 94.

I use hand loaded 95gr barnes TTSX in SSA brass, #41's and 10x powder.

I have an 18" barrel from Bison, and a 16" barrel from AR15P. The 18" sits at home most of the time now. The 16" is just much handier for getting around in brush, getting in and out of treestands and hides, and pretty much everything else. The difference in FPS is so minor that I don't even worry about it. The 6.8 is designed to give good performance out of barrels as short as 12", so a carbine length barrel is perfectly viable. I have hunted with C&R rifles for most of my life, and that 6.8 carbine has replaced most of them in the rotation for the last year. It is on par with the .257 Roberts and .300 Savage, in a lighter, more robust package.
