Trigger Guard Replacement

I have a Stag Arms lower and I am trying to get the factory trigger guard out so I can install my winter trigger guard but for some reason this the trigger guard pin (the one closest to the grip) wont budge. I have been wrestling with this one pin for a few days now and I have officially waged war on this pin. Its now not about installing my winter trigger guard but to simply get that pin out and destroy it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove this effectively without making blemishes on the finish? I have been using a 1/8 punch with a rubber hammer, supporting the lower at all times, but I have not been successful. Any help or suggestion would b e greatly appreciated.

try some lube, and stick with it!

Rem oil and roll pin punch, not a traditional punch. Traditional is going to flatten it out and make it more difficult to remove.

I would take blue painters tape and make a nice little buffer around the roll pin, to ensure you don't scratch your lower more than you have to, then drop the rem oil on and bang away. I use the following and have installed and removed 4 or 5.

You could dremel through the flat trigger guard to expose the center of the roll pin, cut the roll pin in half and then grab each half from the middle.

That would be a delicate operation but if all else fails...

First off, ditch the rubber hammer and get a real hammer. That's the most difficult pin to get in or out of a lower. You need to put real force into it (as long as the trigger guard ears are well-supported).

Second, you SHOULD be using a proper roll pin punch, but if you can keep a flat 1/8" punch on target, that will work also. Just note that it's not "ideal".

I have actually done this a couple times mostly for people that have installed the pin in the wrong hole.

Unhinge the trigger guard, and then cut it off as close to the ears as possible. Then go in close to the ears on either side. At that point, you have much less pin to pop out. It works. JUST BE CAREFUL. And do not come crying to me if you screw it up

Haha thanks guys. I'm going to lube it up real well and get my iron hammer out. I forgot to mention that I have a roll pin punch, just didn't clarify that. Worst comes worst, I will just cut the trigger guard to expose the pin.

I've always used a very small brass hammer for putting together AR lowers, EXCEPT for the trigger guard roll pin. That sucker gets the "bigger hammer" treatment every single time. And I've put together several hundred lowers.
