    Red Dot on AK

I've not seen many pictures of scopes on AK rifles with a side-mount rail, more on the SKS or others. How do folks put an RDS on an AK?

Should one put on a side rail or other type of mount?

Do you have a RDS on your AK? How is it mounted?

Try this thread (the AK picture thread)

I use a Krebs KRSR, which is a hinged rail that mates to the rear sight base (you remove your rear leaf sight from it's base) and folds down over the dust cover to lock into a goose-ball style hitch (like the hitch you would use to tow a trailer) that is installed onto the rear stock mounting tang. It is heavy for it's size, has an integrated M16A2 style sighting system, and is rock solid. It's expensive so not for everyone. I posted my pics up in that thread somewhere.

ETA I have an Eotech 552 on mine, that may change eventually or it may not, I dunno.

I saw an AK on this site wth this integrated dust cover/rail. Problem for me is you have to remove the rear sight.

Seems easy enough. Just smack it out with a wooden dowel.

I use Russian PK-01 V and it's possible to co witness with this sight.
                  Very well made sight.

I recently bought a ATI strikeforce set which comes with a top front handguard rail only problem is I was using a truglo holo on it and the light red dot went out on me. Warning buy a good red dot.

The Midwest Industries Rails can come with a top rail mount specifically made for your specific red dot optic. This allows you to cowitness in the lower 1/3 with your irons. No matter how expensive your red dot is, it can fail. Aimpoints and EoTechs have both failed on me in the past. If you can see your irons it is no big deal.

I meant to say....you have to remove the rear sight and I want to keep my original rear sight!

.....better rail/mount is just as important as the optic. ATI makes garbage products. Not only is cheap Chinese garbage but it even looks fugly.
Sorry, not trying to be a snob here, I have my own philosophy, If it's cheap, it better be made well for me to put on the rifle.
ATI is even worse then UTG, at least they have a few o.k product and don't overuse to much cheap plastic.

Buy once and cry once (if it's your only one).

                            Thanks for posting the pics.

How does the mount attach to the side of the receiver? Looks like there is a quick disconnect, but is the mount riveted or screwed to the receiver?
