    AR-10

I'm almost finished with my AR-15 build. (Will post pick later). I want to start my next build, and was wondering what the consensus was for length of barrel, >18, comments, experiences, etc.

It depends on what you want to do with it? Something to carry or a bench gun, precision or a fighting gun, dpms or armalite pattern, etc etc
      Seriously missing the 80's.....

16" is all you need unless you are planning on "long range/precision" in which case a bolt gun is a better idea.

I want to shoot at hostiles past 600m, effectively.

A good 16" barrel with a good comp on the end is definitely where I will be putting my money vs. an 18" barrel.

Check out some of the reviews on this forum about the Scar 17s/Mk17 that technique did. He's been giving info about some very favourable results he's obtained about his 16" barreled 17s. He also isn't the only person I have heard say that a MK 17 Mod 0 can match an M110 SASS for accuracy (with a high quality optic).

That said, as far as just AR's go...

            PWS makes the MK 212/214/216
LWRC makes the REPR in 12/16/18/20" bbls
            POF makes a 16" and 20" bbls
Noveske makes the N6 in 12.5/14.5/16/18/21
Armalite makes the "real" AR 10

And of course if you feel like spending 2 or 3x what a rifle is worth, there is the SR-25 from KAC. Just my .02 though. Its a perfectly fine rifle.

Those are just the ones that come to mind right now.

Any well made 16" barreled 7.62 with quality ammunition and optics and a good shooter can do that. Hell we can easily take our out of the box A4's with RCO to 550.

For a bolt gun I was looking at the 338 Lapua from Savage, but that's just looking.

Thanks! I'll look into those models...and definitely look into that SR-25.

What unit you in? If you're in an inf. bn you might be able to ask your SSP (or one of us armory trolls) if you can ogle at their M110 SASS's (an SR-25 with some rail system and buttstock changes).

imho they are overpriced for what you get. Hell they are overpriced for what the Corps gets.

I own a REPR with a 20" barrel w/ Leupold Mark IV 8.5x25x50, love the 4 position gas setting. Farthest I shot is around 700yards.

                          LMT 308. Here's why:

-16" Chrome lined barrel capable of producing sub-MOA groups. The barrel is "quick change", thus allowing you to change to different calibers and barrel lengths.

                          -FailZero BCG

                          -Very nice two-stage trigger

                          -Ambi mag release and safety

SR-25 compatible (The lower is actually made by KAC, so it's essentially an SR-25)

-Extremely reliable. In fact, it had less malfunctions than the HK 417 and the SCAR-H, one of the main reasons why the British are using the LMT.

-It can be had for ~~$2300 and comes with pricey LMT iron sights and the LMT SOPMOD stock. If you don't want them, you can EASILY sell them.

Honestly, it is the best .308 AR that money can buy right now, and it is by far the best deal out there.

I'm sold on the Armalite pattern.
The DPMS isn't bad, I have a problem with the Mags... The Pmags stink!

Lou, your rifles are STUPIDLY SEXY (not that I had to tell you).

What problems did you have with the PMAGs?

And whats up with the PRI front sights? Just curious
