The Giesseles are very nice triggers. Top tier in my opinion. Personally, I like a fairly light trigger so I have mine set at ~3.0 lbs. first stage and ~1.5 lbs. second stage (was recommended my CGN member Ocabj).

I am unfamiliar with Timney AR triggers. I know they are very well received by many AR and Bolt Action guys. I am unfamiliar with adjusting Timney triggers so I will not comment on that.

Is there a reason you are considering something different?

P.S. your post count is scary!

SSA-E is a two stage, your wanting a single stage no?
Your wanting a Super 3-Gun or Super Dynamic 3-Gun, I believe.

Re-read the title, I've only played with a display model Timney, and I was very impressed with it. I have just ordered a Geissele SSA-E should have it by Monday, I'll get back to you when I've installed and dry fired it a bit.

I have a single-stage made by Bill Springfield with a 3lb pull weight. It's nice but doesn't compare to the Geiselle National Match 2-stage.
4oz second stage and half the lock time? Boy Howdy.

I had the Timney swapped it out. I prefer the JP. Food for thought (or perhaps, mud in the water).

i have a couple of giessele trigs, two tim 3pounders, and a wilson. for me, i shoot the timiney better through my spr and dmr rifles. but thats me, i am not a big fan of the drag. but good lord are those giessele trigs smooth. the two stage is like cuttin butter with a katana. so im no help case they are both great, i guess it depends on the application.

No issues with my SD3G got about 200 rounds on her now I think. For basically a combat trigger I find it great on doubles and triples. Really brings the quick sight picture of the Eotech xps 2-0 into it's own imho.

Have you contacted Timney? I found them to have great customer service.

Is there any correlation with what ammo you're running? JP, for instance, recommends only certain spring combinations for use with military-spec ammo with hard primers to ensure reliable ignition.

Geissele triggers are great, though. I run a S3G which is like butter. On pure trigger press, I am more partial to the SSA-E, but the S3G has a shorter reset.

I have timney's on several guns but not on my AR's (yet). I will put them on my AR's as funding allows. They're the easiest trigger to initially set up/install. Adjusting isn't always an option for the layman and really, i find them to be well adjusted for most things other than maybe BR competition right from the box. 250 bucks for a trigger is a little tall but for the quality, if you need it I like Timney if for nothing else that the install is so retarded easy. 2 pins out, drop in, 2 pins in. Having only used them on bolt guns so far I can't say about light primer strikes... that's not in control of the trigger on most bolt guns as the striker spring is inside the bolt body and there's no true "hammer".

I had a Timney and it crapped out on me. That being said, Timney was great about taking it back immediately and fixing it.

(Then when the package arrived at my place it got stolen because the condo manager left it out...)

Anyway, I decided to try a Geissele and loved it. I prefer the SSA over the Timney hands down (Personal preference)

Another forgotten, not often mentioned trigger is the Wilson Combat. I have a WC two stage in my AR-10 and it's amazing as well.

Generally I shy away from anything that's adjustable in my AR trigger group. Just one more thing to go wrong if I run it hard, but again that's a personal thing. If you can, I'd try a few out and figure out which one you like. I did it the expensive way, but there are calgunners with all makes and models who I'm sure would let you try it out at the range.

                          B.

I bought a timney for my AR dirt cheap from a calgunner who failed to mention that it didn't function correctly, so I assumed it was fine... turns out that was kind of a load since the thing wouldn't reset without manually pulling the trigger forward. I called up Timney and they told me to send it to them to fix it, instead they just shipped me a brand new one(with candy) that functioned correctly. In the end I wound up getting an amazing deal on what would eventually be a brand new trigger, even though there was a bummer of a range trip(fortunately I never take just 1 gun to the range) and a week waiting on shipping, I learned that Timney provides excellent customer service to go with an excellent product.

Now whether the original trigger I got was bad from the factory or someone had tinkered with it, I'll never know.

                              (edited to make actual sense)
