Have you seen how much a dragunov actually costs? The "dragunov" rifles you see on sale for $700-$1000 are romanian PSL's, they do not operate like a dragunov at all.Comment

AKs already have sights you can use out to 1000 yards lol. And they don't cost $2800Will trade liquor/wine/beer for parts and accesories and ammo! PM me. Dont drink n shoot. Offer void where prohibited. Must be 21 or older, etc. etc.

Keep in mind that the PSL and Dragunov do both use the same round, 7.62x54r compared to the AK's 7.62x39, have twice the effective range of the AK, and their cartridge has a heck of a lot more room for powder as well as higher pressures. Of course effective range shouldn't be confused with maximum range, as other people have already commented you can lob a round 1000 yards with an AK. But if I can lob x39 1000 yards, I can lob x54r 1000 yards and further.
It would have been nice to see if the 1000 yard AK of theirs could actually hit anything intentionally at that distance, but I doubt we'll ever know.
Peter W Bush, they do but it's not realistic. It's holdover from the older rifles that had sights up to 2000 meters in some instances, purely for volley fire and not aimed shots. It's to make it rain lead if you have enough troops, not headshots.Comment

I like the show. I'm mean come on they shoot guns and blow stuff up, it's good tv.
I did get anoyed over the not using a proper depth guage. Sure an eye ball works but a depth guage makes it even better in the fit and finish. I came from the race industry and we made sure all parts were within .001-.0005. Thats cars, not a weapon that could potentialy blow up in your face.Comment

I watch the show religiously, but only because there's nothing else worth watching on that particular day, during that particular hour. At best, it's somewhat entertaining, but the owner seems to think that he has the market cornered in mall tested and ninja approved conversions, and acts like he's a day or two away from earning a U.S. Defense contract. Arrogance at it's finest.Comment

Show is crap. I watch a little bit of each episode to see if they're going to do anything interesting. Once in a while they pull through, generally with the renovations of relics or the time they built a .50 cal M2 from the OEM parts kit. I think their craftsmanship is garbage, and I wouldn't want them working on any of my guns let alone anything I was thinking about purchasing, but it's interesting to see the old stuff being built.
Hell, I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and have everything they do but the lathe/mille or whatever that they never use. Well, I don't have a press anymore, but...they really do have some shoddy workmanship. Not to mention completely unoriginal ideas and highly irritating personalities.Your views on any given subject are the sum of the media that you take in, scaled to the weight of the credibility of the source that provides it, seen through a lens of your own values, goals, and achievements.

Wouldn't know, they never shot their 1000 yard saiga at 1000 yards so we could see what it could/couldn't do.

I think they did shoot it at 1000 yards, IIRC. My brother read on some forum they post on that it took them 3 hours to hit the target. Will trade liquor/wine/beer for parts and accesories and ammo! PM me. Dont drink n shoot. Offer void where prohibited. Must be 21 or older, etc. etc.

What I find amazing, is that everybody in this thread so far (at least it seems) has a subscription to cable television. I could never find it in my heart to pay money to have people try to sell me crap I don't even want, when I'm trying to relax. At least with internets and firefox adblockplus, the marketing is targeted, and I see ads for stuff in which I may actually have an interest.
Never seen the show, never intend to watch the show, but I sincerely (really, I'm not being tongue-in-cheek, I promise) thank you all for sparing me the time it takes to look the show up online. Hope y'all have a wonderful evening, and I hope that sweet baby Jesus bestows you all with a firearms show that doesn't totally (metaphorically) suck golf balls through garden hoses.Comment

They seem like decent folk but you have to wonder what's going to happen to that operation when the Discovery Channel pulls the plug in another season or two and they no longer have all that wonderfull "TV" money rolling in to help prop up their business. They'll have to go back to the bread and butter work of actually building/selling guns for a living which from what I can tell they're only about average at.
That Katana episode really killed me. They've got that gun on their website for around $1800.00. You could build or buy a similar AR for much less.
Also, who needs a 1000 yard AK? How much enengy is that round going to have left at a 1000 yards anyway? Isn't that what bolt action rifles are for?Comment

I would have had more respect for them if they would have used a VEPR receiver or beefed up the receiver somehow. I couldn't believe he didn't want to buy a tool to check the chamber. If he would have started with a VEPR .308 or something then they could have used some match ammo.Comment
