Which AR Pistol lower to get?

So I am getting my yearly bonus, which means its time to be spoiled.

I want an ar-15 Pistol, which lower should I get? So far I can only find the RRA pistol lowers, for about $270... is that reasonable?

And if I do go the RRA route, what are the concerns with the AWB list? I think as long as it is not the same set up as the listed guns, I am cool. Being a pistol, I should have nothing to worry about, correct?

Edited to add; If i only currently have a 16'' barreled upper, will this be too long for a single shot pistol exemption?

You can't just buy a new lower and build an AR pistol.

    Your choices are:

    Buy a complete pistol
    Buy a used lower FTF
    Complete an 80% lower

I'm going with the last option - Especially when I found out that once it's built - It stays off the radar.

    No requirement to register it....

      Try this guy:

He sells RRA lowers and will help you out with the CA compliance issues.

I don't have the tools, nor do I know anyone with the tools to complete the 80 percent lower. Plus, I want it to be done right, not my first attempt which may or may not be to spec.

Second, I have a dealer who will allow me to send the RRA pistol lower to him, and he will install the upper, and BB, and mag sled. I believe he has a 07 FFL. Then he will DROS it to me. Sucks to have it registered, but at least I know it will run.

Unless anyone wants to help me finish an 80%

Just emailed that CSSALES guy, want to know what he'll charge for attaching my upper, mag sled, and bullet button before shipping it out.

I would definitely go the 80% route. Not only will you be able to get it done without all the hassle of obtaining a retail pistol lower, but you will also have the opportunity to completely customize it. There is also the added benefit that you will get it done cheaper with the 80% in the long run.

If you look around in the gunsmithing forum, you will find some very useful information, and a few individuals that may be able to help you out.

On the other hand, if you want an already-completed build, you may want to check this thread out:

I'm going the 80% route, myself. I've been doing a lot of research on this lately.

Contact EBR Works and check his prices and services before you lock with your FFL. Lowers, any virgin lowers can be built into handguns and do not need to be marked "pistol" in any way. If, they feel comfortable doing so, an 07FFL can bring in any stripped lower you want and assemble it into a handgun for you (Company policy may not allow them to do it though). So, if you are comfortable with a non "pistol" marked lower, you should be able to get that price down a little bit.

                  +1.

I have two pistol lowers, neither of which are marked "pistol". One is a JD Machine, the other is a MEGA.

My next pistol dros will be a noveske (not marked pistol).

                    LEO exemption though
