My neighbor, who I got into shooting.. just bought one and took my basic carbine course.. for all the same reasons you did.. he didn't think he needed a quad rail, and etc.. he added a rail to the bottom and mounted an afg.. and an aimpoint m4s, troy sights I had laying around..

went though the carbine course without a hic-up..

Haha! I came close to doing just that! But I put the kool-aid down when I realized that a decent scope and set of rings would be cheaper than an Aimpoint or Eotech dot, which wouldn't provide any magnification anyway, at least not without ANOTHER expensive add-on. Almost got the bottom rail and AFG, but couldn't justify it because if I'm going to be standing or shooting from a non-rested position, I can just use a standard rifle grip that I'm used to anyway. Plus the AFG would get in the way for rested shooting. Almost got some flip up irons as well, but as soon as I saw the price and realized I would probably never use them, I backed away. I think the only thing I've bought for it so far (besides the scope) are the screw-in hand guards from Ruger for like 20$ because the front gets pretty warm and I'd like to keep the skin on my fingers :P

Yeah my neighbor shot my carbine, and wanted to copy it as close as possible.. So he went with an aimpoint I had laying around.. But now he wants a mk12 after shooting mine... It is always fun to get new shooters into the sport..

My friend got me into shooting earlier this year. I'd been to ranges and rented stuff every now and then and owned a pile of gas airsoft pistols, but never owned any real firearms. 8 months later, I have two pistols, three rifles, and a great progression of skill and knowledge. It's definitely a fun and addictive (even if super expensive) new hobby.
