I was thinking, with all the advertising aimed at combat, defense and tactical use, has anyone actually used their rifle in that capacity?I ask because everyone (including myself) is spending ALOT of money on stuff designed to work with the aforementioned applications. In my opinion, the accesory companies and the rifle manufacturers themselves are making a killing off of people buying stuff they will never ever use or need.the more I think about it, the more I appreciate my Kalishnakov rifle.

How many of you have used your AR for self defense?

Most AR owners will probably say never, but considering you would get the same answer from AK owners and that you can get an AR for about the same price as an AK you really dont have much of an argument.
Better to have one and not need it than not have one and need it.Last edited by T-800; 07-21-2011, 9:33 PM. -

I have only used my AR to take out paper, carboard, and steel assailants at range. It was built to hold them back from 300 yards or better, and it does that quite well.
Certain talking heads will talk, gee really, about how gun owners have a hard on for their guns and wish they could use them to kill someone. I, for one, hope that I never have to use my gun for self defense. But, if I have to, I'm reaching for one of the Sigs or the Remington 870 in the house, not the AR; the AR is quite impractical for use in close quarters as it is quite long and it is VERY heavy for something to be CQB ready, at least mine is.Comment

I doubt it... like others said, it's very impractical.
Using an AR-15 for home defense is like using a howitzer for a target at 50 yards...
A handgun will do.Originally Posted by paul0660:

To draw a comparison wasn't my goal but it helps my point, I can buy an AK for the same price as a stupid rail to hang stuff off of on my AR.The logic baffles me.Comment
