How to go about building a CA legal aks74u/ak74u?

First of all let me apologize for asking something that has likely already been asked and answered. My 8 year old computer finally bit the dust, at the moment my only means of internet access is my phone. My phone does not let me use the search function on forums, or post the proper links to anything.

That being said, how could one go about building a 5.45x39 aks74u style firearm? What would be a good base firearm or stripped reciever? The real ak74u has an 8.3 inch barrel, how can I get around this? Is there a company that makes a fake suppressor that can be permanently fixed on the barrel, or a shroud that would slide over a 16 inch CA legal barrel? I imagine this build is quite possible but I think it will be difficult, time consuming, and lots of fun. Also, is there anyone that sells this type of rifle already assembled?

Do any of you have a rifle like this? If so I would love to see it, and the specs!

You can get a AKS74 receiver "Model NDS-2SF with plate" from Nodak spud, get the one with the reinforcement plate, costs more but stronger and more correct.

Find a reputable builder to build it for you for find help at a BP.

For muzzle device they do make fake suppressors that fit over the 24mm threading. Check K-Var. Or find a smith that can fabricate one.

The stock will need to be fixed open to acquire the 30" OAL. Then put on a mag lock of your choice and you're GTG.

I believe KVAR has 10rd 5.45 mags you can use.

I've built around 20 Krinks. It depends on what you want. Rifle, you can go with a fake can to get you to 16" and never fold the stock. You want the short barrel, a pistol build is the way to go. Just don't advertise or you could be the reason the BATFE would stop the import of cheap 5.45 ammo.
