Is the Magpul AFG Considered a Forward Pistol Grip ?

I am considering building a featureless AR type rifle, and I was wondering if the magpul AFG is considered a "Forward Pistol Grip" in the AW list of evil features? Could I install this on a featureless rifle and use a detachable magazine?

Product link for those not familiar with the AFG http://store.magpul.com/prod_detail_list/110

    any Input is appreciated.

Heated debate on these forums. A lot of the consensus is that it is a feature, but many Calgunners feel safe rocking them. A quick search would've turned up this exact same information, just as a heads up. But there's no definite ruling from DOJ.

Then most Calgunners don't know what a pistol grip is. AFG is the same exact shape as a Monte Carlo stock or a Monsterman grip. If the AFG is a pistol grip than so is your illegal Monte Carlo stocked M1A/Mini 14s and featureless ARs.

        Is it really that unclear?

I'm comfortable with having an AFG on my AR Pistols, but I'm hesitant about putting one on my AR's that are "featureless" builds.

I'm okay with the AFG on a DRACO/AR Pistol because of the BATFE letter that acknowledges the AFG as not a VFG, and doesn't demand AOW status.

Technically no but I wouldn't want to get into a schooling match with an ill informed LEO.

Yes it does not have a "wrap around hold" like a pistol grip, but it dos protrude conspicuously from the front rail. which is why I posted this question in the forum. I don't want to be a DOJ guinea pig for a new precedent. I love California, and it's perfectly sane gun laws (sarcasm)

Perfect picture! Thanks, I talked to CA DOJ Firearms on the phone a few weeks back, they asked me to draft a letter...I'm working on it, albeit slowly, and any pics like this help a lot.

No I forgot where but a while back there was a huge thread arguing this and it is not considered a pistol grip. This is the way around it but still getting some support up front.

OOOOOOH! I'm excited! I want to put one on my featureless and though I feel it's safe am still not willing to risk it. Please post a thread with the results. -Ben

Not saying one way or the other, but it does look like these thumb hole stocks that would be a feature. I would be concerned if your thumb would fit in the opening.

Not necessarily "unclear", just was wondering if any definitive "judgement" had been issued. Thanks =)
