What do you think of your local firearms stores?

This is kind of a rant, but I just felt like posting it.

I have yet to find a truly awesome local gunstore that shows respect to all ages, has great customer assistance, and people that know their products. CWS and Ten Percent are absolutely top notch but not located near me. The one place with all of these qualities that I did find, Great Outdoors, has now closed. They not only closed, they closed just after I discovered them. Of all the times I have purchased firearms, the best experiences have been FFLs that just perform transfers, not sales.

Wild Sports has always had the potential to be great but they don't sell you jack until you are at least 21 (for ammo, over 21). I tried to buy .30-06 ammo from them (at age 21) once and they refused sale becuase the ammunition can be used in a pistol. They used the same reason with .223. I know .223 can be used in AR pistols and the like BUT THOSE GUNS ARE NOT LEGAL HERE ANYWAY! When I went in another time, that excuse became "Sorry, we only sell ammo to those OVER 21." Being 21 was not legal enough to buy ANY ammo there. However, in their F'ed up logic they would still sell you the guns.........but even if you drop serious cash with them you still have to have mommy or daddy present to say yes to an ammo purchase till you are of age 22 or older. See a problem here? I can't tell you how annoying it used to be in the past when I had to have a parent go in with me to help me get some .223 at a cheap price. While they have a fabulous array of stuff to sell and their employees do seem to know their product, their emplyees are not talkative about a product and don't seem interested in anything but sitting around.

Continuing the ramble on wild sports.....When my dad wanted to purchase a rifle for hunting he decided to go there. I figured he'd have no problem since he is nearly 60 now. I went with him to make sure they did not mis-inform him or sell him something rediculous. I told the salesman helping my dad to not sell my father a rifle chambered in anything larger than .308 or it would aggrivate past shoulder injuries and arthritis. The guy said "I have the perfect caliber in mind!.....270 Winchester!" Having never seen .270 before, It was clearly a smaller caliber. A week later when my dad bought ammo and brought it home I was furious. The bullet may be .27 caliber but the powder charge is essentially a .30-06. I drove over and immediately demanded that they rectify the situation. They were reluctant at first but eventually gave my dad a slip-on butt pad and some low recoil ammo. Avoid this place like the plague, just FYI.

Another place, Rancho Cordova Guns and Ammo, is great for most ammo sales (NOT .223) and their rifle/pistol selection. They don't sell off-list rifles, but that does not make a store bad. The store "feel" is what makes it kind of a terrible place to go. Everytime I go in I feel like I'm being pushed to buy something quickly or get out. The staff is not very conversational and actually tends to avoid answering any questions you may have.

I was just wondering if anybody here has gotten the same negative vibe from the AVERAGE gun store?
Replying to craigslist for casual encounters is like pokemon with STDs. Gotta catch em all

Bright Spot Pawn has always been phenominal. Employees always treat you well and work non stop every day doing paperwork and explaining hte laws. I go there for my FFL needs

I did a PPT at turners in kearny mesa (san diego) and have to say the big white dude there was a good guy too, great attitude, loved to talk, and very helpful

Back in the day, I got most of my fun toys through a place in Hermosa Beach called Beach Cities Armory. They were great to work with and had a lot of fun stuff. Of course, it was the early/mid '90s, so what so you expect.
Alas, they closed down about '96. I think the only place left in this area is Turners. I don't count Big 5.
      Turners is, well, it's Turners...

          Hey there Sac area bud

Wild Sports: Good prices on hand guns, but they have the damnedest creepy people working there, their long guns are way overpriced, and you can tell the manager is a royal a55hole, but hey, they got good coupon deals on plinking ammo.

Cordova guns: Strange vibes, but friendly enough. The only place that I am willing to haggle. Hint: Offer the sticker price out the door. You'll end up paying a few bucks higher, but well worth it.

River City Gun Exchange: The owner scares me. Customer service is prompt, but cold. They used to have good deals on surplus rifle caliber ammo, but with the new city ordinance, they are off the list

Sac Armory: Can say that I will miss these guys when they are gone.

Great Outdoors: Come on. $20 for a box of 9x18? Get a grip. The only reason that I shop there is that they have a good section of accessories.

Badger John's: If there was a hole filled with hicks in Sacramento, this place would be it. Too hunting oriented for my tastes.

Sportsman's Warehouse: Friendly service, but you have to hunt for a deal. I mostly go there to look at the stock they have.

Can't think of any others right now.

I agree 100%, can't stand going into River City, I bought my Mini and my .45 from them, they won't get my business again, unless I have no other choice.

I give my business to Guns N Stuff, hes a friendly old guy who will chat your ear off, hes a little pricey, but its a mom and pop kinda shop and I'd rather give my business to the small guy. He also open carries while working..

I don't like Cordova, the range masters are annoying. I haven't checked out the Gun Room yet.

Turners in Reseda sucks azz, big time. The employees consist mostly of dumb white supremacists. They don`t know jack and act like they`re doing you a favor.

MB Retting is O.K., probably the best selection in the LA area.

Gun world and Stevenson`s in Burbank are decent shops with friendly and more knowledgeable personel, a little bit on the pricy side though.

King`s gunworks in Glendale is an excellent source for custom 1911`s and the staff is O.K. too.

I used to buy from Eric when he was still on Aviation in Hermosa Beach. Thats where I bought my Walther P-5's (still have three) and a really early 226. I bought some S&W 3" Model 24's there as well. Remember he went from on Aviation in Hermosa to Sepulveda Blvd. in Manhattan Beach, and later opened another on PCH in Hermosa. When he was on PCH in Hermosa he also had a reptile shop across the street. Where is that guy?

I remembering visiting their first location(that I'm aware of) in MB once or twice, but I was too young at the time to buy. I helped a friend buy his first rifle there after they moved to the place on Aviation. I just supplies for my lonely shotgun. I turned 21 about the time they moved to PCH in Hermosa. I went down there to check out snakes at the reptile store and ended up buying my first handgun at BCA. It was a total POS 1911 Commander clone in .45 made by Wyoming Arms. I got it for $165 NEW! I hated that thing. Ended up trading it in for partial payment on a Beretta 92G Police return. Of course they closed down not too long after the AW ban hit
The south bay isn't too gun friendly, it seems.

A very good friend of mine opened a motorcycle shop in that exact location afterwards. They found a bunch of loose ammo in the back, including some of the "dreaded Black Talons". Oooooo scary...

                              I miss BCA!
