    shooting with Glasses

    Hi Guys,

I lost my contacts while camping over the weekend, and I went shooting today wearing my glasses. It sucked. Does anyone shoot with prescription glassses? I was getting double vision and struggling with Iron sights, then with a scope it was useless to even try. what do you all do?

    thanks,
    Tom

I might try something from this thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=52226

For 6 months, I've been shooting with just my glasses. So far I've been lucky

I shoot with prescription glasses. I have no other option since I have a synthetic lens in my dominant eye from cataract surgery and cannot wear contacts.

I don't really have any problem shooting irons. I'm competing in High Power Service Rifle just fine.

When I do shoot with glasses, I find it to generally be not much of a problem. My own glasses are small enough size wise to not get in the way of getting a good sight picture. Then again, I'm mostly a pistol shooter. In any event, when I DO shoot a rifle with a scope, I still find it to not be much of a hindrance because I ALWAYS shoot with some sort of glasses on. Usually I shoot with S&W safety/shooting glasses OR my well-worn Oakley M-frames.

That, however, is MY own experience and opinion. Yours, obviously, is different. Personally, I prefer wearing contacts over glasses for normal activities.

I use these http://www.essgoggles.com/ICE-Eyeshield_6_detail.html ; current USMC issue. I got the RX inserts free courtesy of medical, they're normally $80. So even though I have to turn them back in 3 months from now, I can still buy the system commercially for $40.

I've never had a problem shooting irons while wearing glasses, and that's shooting at 200-500 yds w/ the M16A2.

Go buy a whole bunch of 1-day contact lens...... ($20 for 30...... http://www.contactlensking.com)

Put them everywhere, in your toolbox, in your backpacks, in your car, in your gun bag etc.... then you will ALWAYS have spares....

For scope use I usually take off my glasses as my prescription isn't that bad so I can shoot scopes without glasses, iron sights or pistol I wear them without a any hindrance.

I wish I didn't have to wear glasses at all, but without wearing them I can't even see the sights on a pistol when I'm shooting. When using a scoped rifle, I've never had to use the glasses.

Does anyone shoot with prescription glassses?
I did until about a month ago when I had my Lasik done. I would highly recommend it. Best thing I've ever done. 20/15 in each eye.

It's worth every penny, is absolutely positively painless, and the procedure took all of 15 min about 7 min per eye.

My girlfriend closes both her eyes before she shoots, so I guess I'm lucky she doesn't have your problem.

I always shoot wearing glasses and occasionally shoot with googles on over those. That sucks and I really need to invest in a decent set of Wiley X or Oakley perscription shooting glasses.

I wear bifocals for shooting. My real problem for rifle shooting is that I am right handed and left eye dominant-ouch. For pistol shooting that is not a real problem while shooting two handed though.

I have used the ESS ICE glasses with the RX insert for about 2 years and I like 'em. Comes with 3 lenses and they are easy to switch out.
I would like to have the Lasik surgery done at some point.

I've shot with my regular lenses and prescription sunglasses. Never really had a problem with either, but I prefer the sunglasses as they seem t stay in place better since they're a wraparound design made for athletics.
