    Best Custom Bolt Action Gunsmiths

Who are the best custom bolt action gunsmiths out there?

AI, R&D, Norcal, Accuracy Sytems, etc....

Looking for a Remmy 700 specialists for 1/4moa shooting.

I would like to know first hand experience if possible instead of just hearing from someone else. Looking to drop 2-3k on a system which does not include mount, rings, and scope.

That is what I would build. Scratch that, will build in the future. I do not have first hand experience but everyone raves about R+D. I corresponded with him via email and he was very helpful.

R+D is awesome. Randy builds some amazing rifles. And he's local so its easier.

GAP, KMW, and to some extent Tac Ops get a lot of praise on various boards.

Uf you're interested in a NBRA style rifle, try Action Gunworks in Sparks Nevada. He has built many guns that hold or have held world records.

            You've seen mine . . . R & D built - twice - I was one of Randy's original civilian customers and will never go anywhere else
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

If you have to have a 1/4 minute guarantee, I think TacOps is the only builder that will give you one. That said, R&D, GA Precision, KMW will build you a world class rifle and you may save a few bucks.

If you go to the For Sale forum on Snipershide, there are some custom built rifles that may be what you are looking for.

                  Totally concur.

Go to www.snipershide.com and look at the for sale forum. Tons of goodies there.

Tac Ops is a regular at www.snipercentral.com. He goes by the handle "Black Ops".

i'm going to put in an order within the next couple of months on a new rifle. i don't want to be without a .308 rifle, so i'm going to build a new one and i figure by the time i get the new rifle in my hand, my barrel will be pretty shot out by then. i've been shooting about 400 rounds a months, so it's gonna go quick. i'll probably just stick my my 700 p in the safe till i kill the next barrel, and rebuild my 700 p to a custom piece. and vice versa again. i found my true love. i love .308 precision shooting!

Dave Lake is a pretty good gunsmith. I've seen several of his rifles in action at the Sac Valley Tactical Long Range matches. In the hands of a good shooter they are the equal of any other custom rifle out there. I know that he has 4 rifles in the top 8 so far this year's standings.

Why get two .308s? Get something in a different caliber that exceeds the .308's abilities if you're going to go back and accurize you .308 anyways. This way you end up with two accurate rifles that can serve two different purposes instead of two rifles that are essentially the same
