Noob Question about .270 Win vs .270 WSM

I am currently in the waiting period for a Winchester Model 70 .270 WSM rifle and thought it would be a good to make the best of my time and stock up on some ammo while I wait. However I have run into some confusion between .270 win and .270 WSM.

My main question is; can I use .270 win ammo in my .270 WSM rifle? I'm fairly new to shooting, but I would think in theory I could use both if I wanted as they are the same caliber.

I'm really hoping I can because the .270 win ammo is cheaper and more readily available than the WSM. But at the same time I don't want to assume and then end up having the gun blow up in my face the first time I shoot it.

    Thanks in advance!

Not interchangeable. Same bullet diameter but different cases/chamber and the wsm is a short action.

    WTB used AK MFER.

Ok, I was afraid of that.

Next question, other than reloading, where is the best place to get inexpensive .270 wsm ammo?

          from a magic lamp.....

inexpensive is a relative term with .270wsm

I've seen it for sale at walmart, big 5, and sportsman's warehouse but it was over $20 for 20rds IIRC

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

For this round reloading is going to be your best bet. Unless you dont mind paying big bucks for good ammo.

The 270 WSM is a good round. It all depends on how much you're gonna be shooting. If you onlly shoot 60 rounds twice a year then it don't really matter. If you will shoot a lot then start looking into reloading. The reloading press and the accessories will cost a little more in the beginning but afterwards all you have to add are dies for each additional caliber.

dude...it sounds like you are going to have to reload for that caliber...not every sporting good store carries .270 WSM. you should've probably bought a more common caliber, but that's just my opinion.

good luck hunting and have fun with that rifle!
