You can buy a Remington 700 SPS tactical and Bushnell 3200 Elite 10X Tactical scope for about $700 - 800. Or, can go all out and buy an Accracy International with Schmidt & Bender scope.

To me, Remington and other custom rifles do not have TOO much difference.

    Accuracy International

Ok, explain M24 vs M40 rifling, what are the pro/cons? I am looking at Sniper Country website.

Don't skimp on glass and training. A good scope will outlast your rifle and training will get you on target at distance a lot quicker. A 700 PSS w NF or IOR is good to get started. After a few years you'll probably want to move up to a custom rifle and if you're really into it - hand loads.

What kind of glass are you planning on using? I like the US Optics SN3 design myself, the erek knob is very comfortable to use for me, and my own custom zero stop is very useful.

Still deciding on the glass. First I am deciding on a solid rifle. Suggestion on glass, with out getting too crazy would be helpful too.

                        bigguy901,

What is your goal with the rifle? Are you paper punching, hunting, competing? Total budget?

Knowing this I think I and others can give you a better idea.

For example, bullet weight determines rifling and combine that with how far you are shooting determines velocity and barrel length.

Really if this is your first gun go with a Remington 700 if you're on a budget or call Marc at Spartan and have him build you a rifle that will shoot really well. Budget really factors into this.

A general rule of thumb is to spend the least amount you have to on a rifle that will perform to your needs and spend as much as possible on good glass. It is not uncommon to see a $500 rifle with $2,000 worth of optic out shoot a $2500 with a $500 scope on it. So, don't skimp on optics for your precision rifle. I'd much rather have a Savage 110 with an 8-32 NXS on it than a M40 with a Super Sniper on it and, I think SSs are great glass for the price. BTW, do you really plan on using it for hunting snipes? A paper bag and stick is all I've ever needed.

                            It's only a sniper rifle if you're a politician.

I think sniper central sells precision rifle packages. Or at least they used to. Might want to take a look through some of their reviews if nothing else.
