How far can I shoot this thing

Hey guys, I am looking into a Howa 1500 Ranchland in .308. 20in barrel hogue stock. The ranchland is designed as an easy to grab truck gun with a shorter barrel.

Just wondering if this thing will reach to 600yds accurately. I was concerned about the shorter barrel and thinner/lightweight profile as well as the shaved receiver.

    Anyone have experience with this?

barrel length and caliber seems fine for 600+. i don't have any info about the rifle. i'm sure there a few people on here that have it. i'm leaning towards a rem 700 when i get money.

A 16" AR can hit 600 yards pretty easily in .223. It should be a breeze for that Howa.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a dick. My M1A supposedly had a range of 700 yards, but the farthest I ever shot was only around 200 yards and it was tack driver. The M1A was an autoloader, so the rifle in question should have no problem.

Everyone's accuracy expectation is different... but if you are talking about hitting metal at ASR at 600 yards, you are GTG with some decent scope. Just don't expect to do it 20x in the row due to the barrel profile.

BLM land out in the desert. You can shoot as far as you want if you don't mind the hike! Thanks for the input

Your Ranchland will easily do that but it has a real skinny barrel don't shoot aggressively it will heat up just after two or three shots and get squirrely...

                    Meaning the barrel overheating right?

It's possible.. Ive shot against a Howa in 308 and it didn't do that great.. 600 yards is doable but it's not going to be easy. Then again it all depends on the rifle I guess. But yes you can.

That rifle and bullet can shoot out to 1000 yards no problem.. Will you hit anything.. That's anyones guess

How will this compare to a Rem 700? Will the same skilled shooter place shots as precise on either platform?

It's semi close but it's no 700. I bet in the right hands it can do work but I don't think it could keep up if the same skilled shooters held one of each head to head. It's just not as solid as the 700 is IMO.

Still a rifle tho. Might keep up with one of the lower end 700s but the 700ps and 5rs will run circles around it

I believe a skilled shooter could hit 600yds all day long with that rifle in .308. Howa makes excellent barrels, and have for many many years.

You should not have a problem hitting a target at 600 yards with a 20" barrel 308 Win caliber rifle. However, your skill in reading the wind and understandng the ballistics will dictate whether you can hit the target or not.
