    optics recommendation for a lightweight/carbine .308?

I'm about to get my first .308 in an AR platform and I decided to go into a lightweight build. I wanted a SCAR 17 so bad but didn't want to spend $3k on a rifle so I decided to get a MA-TEN .308 billet set, a lightweight .308 barrel and a Troy TRX battlerail. After everything, I still end up having a lightweight rifle that's half the price of a SCAR 17.

Now I need suggestions on which optics to put on it, I want quick target acquisition and a decent magnification at the same time to take advantage of the .308 caliber. What I have on top of my head are the Trijicon Accupoints but I don't know which kind of magnification to get since I never had any personal experience with the Accupoint line. Should I get the 2.5x10? 3-9? 5-20? I want decent magnification for the .308 caliber but at the same time, I still want to keep it as lightweight as possible. Any helpful inputs would be awesome, thanks in advance.

How far do you want to shoot? What's your budget?

So the Trijicon ACOGs might be your best bet for a lightweight build. Frankly, even that puts you in middle range territory.

Frankly, I think you need to make a decision. If it truly is a carbine, go for something like an Aimpoint or Eotech with a magnifier for reaching out to midrange. If you want longer range, go with a traditional variable scope with something like a 3x to 12x power.

You didn't give any budget parameters so you could go low end or high end with the variable scope. The ACOG will of course cost you. The Aimpoint or Eotech can be had for a reasonable price as used ones show up on the marketplace all the time.

I'm thinking a NF, Trijicon, Vortex Viper PST, Vortex Razor or S&B Short dot 1-4x would work really well on a light weight rig.

1x for fast target acquisition, 4x is plenty to get you up a few hundred yards.

I would recommend vortex, tho which one depends on how far away your targets are. They work soooo good and they are sooo cheap. I have one for my AR, tho it is only .223, but I love it!

Check out the Vortex PST 2.5-10x. 2.5x is fine for quick shots and 10x is plenty to stretch your legs with your rifle. I have one on order, went back and forth between the NF in same magnification but couldn't justify the extra $1000. I plan on doing a full review as soon as it comes in and I can play with it.

I have used my LMT 308 with a fixed 10x and a fixed 3.5x acog. I like the Acog a lot but wish it had 3-6x power setting. Having said that I shot a 3.5 inch group at 350yds in 20mph gusting crosswinds with the acog. I think a good scope would also be the nightforce 2.5x-10x x 32 moa reticle and illumination with zero stop. Im looking at the NF scope now.

Try to borrow some optics and see what works for you. If you are in Orange County,
I can possibly hook you up with target glass.

Look at U.S. Optics, they have scopes for AR-10 rifles
                    with a lot of options.

What kind of shooting do you plan on doing? What ranges will you mostly be shooting at? Will you be hunting?

And how light is your rifle? And post pictures damnit!

Pictures coming soon, hopefully by next week, still waiting on a few more parts. Accupoints are on my wishlist but I might also go for an Eotech and just get a magnifier. But for that price, I can get an Accupoint with a mount from Larue.

It is a lightweight carbine build, probably mid-range shooting mostly and some occasional long range. It won't be a bench rifle definitely.
