Magpul MIAD vs. Tango Down BG-17 comparison - Pics

OK.... here we go... TD BG-17 vs. MIAD. The original TD BG-16 is the grip that has been available for a long while. The BG-17 (Also marketed by US Palm) was designed for shooters with larger hands. IMO, the MIAD is a waste of extra plastic and parts, because people are going to set up their size configuration, and just toss all the other pieces into a parts bag, to be forgotten. If you have small-normal hands, the MOE grip is great. Magpul should make one other grip following the design of the MOE, but add girth and size in the right places for those with larger hands. This would also bring down the price point (You would assume).

Here is the TD, MADE IN USA, perfect fit everywhere.

Here is the MIAD. Every MIAD that I have owned has looked like this. Made in USA (confirmed, printed on packaging). Look at this ghetto fit. There is also another post floating around showing pics of a mounted MIAD with a gap between the trigger guard and the edge of the grip mounting area. Now, I know these gaps are not going to effect function, but to me it's just amazing that grips like TD, and cheapos like UTG can fit nicely.

    Any questions?

you are smoking rocks... MIAD/MOE grips are awesome. I like them way better than most other grips. Extra pieces of plastic = adjustability

Just curious, how many different brands of receivers did you try this with?

Yes, the MOE is a great fit. I just think the MIAD is just attempting to be too many things for different people, and that's why the fit is "gappy". Heck, even the seam where the backstrap slides in, at the top near the optional roll pin hole has a gap.

I have had 4 MIADs over the past 2 years... on these receivers: LWRC, CMMG, Kaiser, and S&W. Every time I have hated the backstrap fit to the receiver.

Rocks? So, are you saying that's an acceptable fit? Don't get me wrong, I have always bought MiADs, but seen the same result- garbage fit when using the largest 2 backstraps. Now that the larger TD is out, no more.

How do you like the MOE but not the MIAD? The MIAD can be made to the same size as the MOE

and the MIAD trigger guard is awesome

My brother has a MOE grip sitting next to me right now, IT FITS correctly. The MIAD parts are just a bad mold from initial design. I'm sorry if I pointed out a flaw in something you own, but you need to take a look at both the MOE and the MIAD (with the largest 2 backstraps) mounted on rifles next to each other.

The fit that I've experienced with Magpul PGs haven't been as bad as missiontrail's, but they have varied from receiver to receiver. The MOEs do look like they come cleaner out of their molds though, but their texturing isn't as aggressive as the MIADS. YMMV

BTW, the receiver in the pics is a Mega Billet. I have seen no difference though between the 4 other receivers that I mentioned above. The MOE simply fits clean.. the MIAD kinda does if you use the smallest backstrap.

so are you hating on the MIAD because of the bad mold or your small girly hands that dont grip it that well?

LOL... I am 6'4", and I have big hands... that's WHY I have always bought MIADs.... and now that's why I buy the new TD large grip... Did you even bother to read my post? BTW, there is no real reason to buy a MIAD if you have small to normal hands... that is what the MOE is for. I think many people buy the MIAD because it's cool to have a "kit", but in the end, being "configurable" is insignificant, because you configure it ONCE, and toss away the other parts. That is why Magpul should make a few more $20 grips that are larger and (or) smaller. I'm not sure how functional something smaller than the MOE would be though.

I like the texture of the MIAD over the MOE, but it can literally be rough around the edges sometimes compared to other Magpul products (If that sort of thing really bothers you).

What I really want and have always wanted over the two is the MOE Plus Grip. However, like everything else Magpul who knows when that's finally gonna come out.
