    Im torn, PSL ponderings.

Do I want a short barrel to help stiffen the barrel or do I want the classic 9 yard long PSL barrel which flexes like a yard stick and produces higher fps with probably less accuracy?

    What would you get?

I vote for the shorter one. It looks better

Either one is pretty sweet, but a good subject to debate...

The longer barrel is less accurate?

Probably, long thin barrels kinda suck but are lighter than bull barrels and give more FPS to reach out real far but I think a 19-20 inch barrel with a 7.62x54 round would be plenty.

I want to have a good shooting gun thats not super long but I also dont want to regret straying from the classic look of the PSL down the road.

I guess I can trade it for a longer one later, decisions decisions. BTW, they are back at centerfire, please dont buy em up until I get my tax return <3

I've got a Waffen Werks AK 54R which is essentially a shorty PSL in AK drag. It has a 16.5" barrel and my recommendation is get the long barrel PSL.

I dont mean to troll and ive always wanted a PSL too but i hear they are only meant to shoot Light Ball ammo (under 150 grains) which means surplus ammo(steel tip/magnetic) would be out of the question and most modern production x54r ammo is Heavy Ball.

Its not less accurate with the longer barrel. It just will heat up faster and open up your groups a bit. For cold bore and slow fire you will be fine.

Buy the longer barrel.. It's accurate and great (speaking from experience)

umm....no...there is PLENTY of military surplus light ball 7.62x54r out there. And yes you only use light ball since the heavier stuff will just beat your poor reciever to death.

I would have to go with a classic full lenght PSL, if you are going to shorten it or do any custom work you might as well get an FPK or an AK-54r. It will be cheaper in the long run and the AK-54r uses standard AK furniture so you have a TON of options.
