I have the stag, the thing kicks less than my .22lr. The side blast is epic too.

My surefire mb556k seems to control recoil a lot better. But it's much louder than my battlecomp.

...as SuperSet said, the SJC Titan is the most effective out all those brakes. It is also the most brutal in terms of being concussive and loud.

Any of the competitions brake will do a bit better job than the tactical brakes.

If you aren't clearing houses with a team, then the concussive blast/loudness shouldn't be an issue.

My roommate has a battlecomp. It is much milder noise/blast wise. The trade off is that it doesn't do the job of a muzzle brake as well as the Titan imo. (That's not saying it isn't good, because it is a damn good brake).

It's a compromise. Loudness/blast vs recoil/flattening characteristics. Choose which side you care more about.

I have several BCs and like them a lot. Agree with others that the braking ability is not as great as an SJC/JP/Roedale type of brake. I also have a couple of WCI brakes - I like them. They are quick a bit longer than the BCs (about 2X), have exit ports all around (don't need to be timed, which is good or bad depending on what type of shooting you do).

Just ordered another one of these from the owner, Robert, because I like 'em a lot (got a titanium one because the steel, as you can imagine, aren't so light).

After using both I still like the PWS FSC556 break the most. My friends got the BC, and aside from the night time flash in my optics, I like the break a lot. My comparison isn’t apples to apples as one setup was a carbine and the other was a middy.

I’m looking for another upper… 14.5” middy and its going to be a hard decision on another PWS or a BC 1.5

While there may be less blast or concussion with the BC, it’s not a world of difference when compared to the FSC. I can’t shoot either one w/o hearing protection, so it’s not really a selling point to me. Price is the biggest deterrence right now.

I have PWS FSC556 on both my ars, It noticably reduces kick, which is pretty much nothing already, being .223, but still, between that and a good two stage trigger, makes world of difference.

I have been running a BC 1.0 on my 16" BCM since last July and I love it!

pws has consistently over numerous pistols, ak and ar, rifles from ar15 to ar10 to ak based proven to be very effective for me so I'd recommend that myself.

                        Here is an old thread

From the pictures the Stag has 3 chambers where the YHM has 2, so one would expect the Stag to work better. Not sure what that says about the noise level or bystander harassment.

I would like to see a side-by-side shooting of these on similar guns.

Here's a great article with an attempt at a scientific method to compare performance of compensators:

Note that this was done prior to the release of the BattleComp. Also, sadly no Triple Tap data either...

My stag will blow empty ammo boxes off the tables to the left and right of me........

Seriously, is the Battlecomp the quietest of the popular comps?

My SCAR 16S came with a PWS, standard, and that thing was way, way too noisy for me. It's off the rifle now with a thread protector on the muzzle while I ponder what to do next. Shoots just great with only the thread protector, but I'm not involved in competitive timed events.

As with anything, you loose some you gain some. A
Comp/brake you will gain noise and loose recoil. Or.... In other words... You have less recoil and have a louder signature.
