Most people I know know that I am an avid gun enthusiast and usually come to me when they have firearms questions which I have answers to (or can find the answers to) thanks to the GREAT MEMBERS OF CALGUNS
. anyway, most of the time the conversation ends up going to AR15's. This isnt unusual due to the fact that it is Americas most popular sporting rifle. And people who are not Calgun forum members usually are full of FUD and are stuck a in 90's gun law state of mind. Anyway, I get to explaining the bullet button and featurless rifles; and I always get the exact same reaction from everyone no matter political leaning, views on gun laws, walk of life.... that reaction is "But, that doesnt make any sense." My simple reply is, 'Well, those are your uber intelligent lawmakers that you voted in.' Anyone else have the same experience?

all the time.....it takes many, many conversations to get them to start believing me, and then many more to get them to halfway understand the AW laws. no one fully gets it yet....sigpic
Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I find myself trying to tell as many people as possible about BBs and featurless rifles.
Most people I talk to want one or five and thought they couldnt own one legally in the republic of Kalifornia. Including myself until about a year ago. lolComment

exact same only the reply is something like, "That's stupid" or "Wha?!?! Why are these laws even there?"Comment

Constantly. I was explaining to a friend today why it is that I take an AR15 to Frontsight classes in Nevada, but only use my Kel-Tec SU16CA when training here in California.
The reason?: I can't use my pre-ban 30-round magazines in my "evil" AR15 - which shoots exactly the same 5.56mm rounds as the SU16 - while here in CA.
"That's crazy!", he says.
Yes ... it is.|

I don't pretend to be an "authority." I'm just a guy who trains a lot, shoots a lot and has a perspective.

Why not just go featureless?Constantly. I was explaining to a friend today why it is that I take an AR15 to Frontsight classes in Nevada, but only use my Kel-Tec SU16CA when training here in California.

I can understand Zombietactics point about using a SU-16. Im pretty lazy and it seems like a lot of work to change out the stock, muzzle device, and remove any grips from the front if you are rocking a BB. also, Ive never fired a featureless, but it seems like the ergos would be kinda funky.Comment

its not as "off" as one would think.. fin grips (monsterman ect) are without question "weird".. the hammerhead (exile machine) is downright nice.. no its not a pistol grip but its nice.. feels a lot like wraping your hand around a youth rifle..
i started with the monsterman and wasnt really "thrilled" about it.. but it worked.. then i picked up the hammerhead grip.. now all my ARs have them...Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

You have to undestand some history in order to understand some of the prominent characteristics of the OLL movement.
Above all else, legislators were not thinking "let's make everybody use bullet buttons or fin grips" but rather, "let's make all military pattern rifles illegal". The first attempt was by name, then by feature.
Bullet buttons and featureless rifles are simply REACTIONARY results to these laws, created in order to have certain rifles and remain legal. The California Moderate Centrist Militia member in exile
