I believe you can only shoot his AW if he is present (along with his registration).
Same for using his full-cap mags.

There is no requirement for carrying the registration confirmation letter while legally shooting a RAW.

You forgot to mention that you dad is located in another state other than CA .

You could sell the Colt rifle out of state...don't expect to get much for it as Colts are more valuable in CA than anywhere else in the country (I purchase a couple of Colts in another state for $300 each )... and use the money to buy a neutered rifle in CA.

thanks guys. well that sucks, what about when he (god forbid) passes. what happens to the gun?

hopefully he will live a long time, (or short time, until our good calgun friends fix this issue).(NO PRESSURE ) long time is preferrred, but not for the issue.
