    Tricky ? about 922(r)

OK...this is kind've an adjunct to the post "MAK 90 looking like it should......finally!!"

I wanna do the same to my RAW. Love the separate stock / grip on an AK. Question is, does the 922(r) requirement apply to importers and manufacturers, or end users?

I was wondering the same. Thought removing the original thumb hole stock was illegal per 922(r) unless it has X amount of US parts. Question is...does the gun have to satisfy both federal and state laws?

hmm im not 100% but im pretty sure it only applies to the manafacture of it, now that dosent mean just the guys that built it but it would apply to you if you were to use diff stocks and whatnot.
im sure someone else here will know this forsure.

I've been collecting SKS rifles with my C&R for years and was always told that if I changed the stock to any kind of sporting stock I would have to make it 922(r) compliant.
So if this applied to me I would guess that it would apply to you for what you are doing.
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

My understanding is you need 10 or less of the original parts to be compliant. I chose to swap the stock set which counts for 3 parts and the trigger group which counts for another three parts. My MAK doesn't have any muzzle brake so no worries there. Use this link to check off what you have to see what is available for you to swap out to make your rifle compliant.http://www.thegunwiki.com/Gunwiki/Bu...rifyCompliance I think the wording of 922 says you cannot import or manufacture a weapon that was not importable unless there are 10 or less of the original parts...or something close to that wording.

This is so confusing. So if someone with a listed AW takes off only the thumb hole stock and replaces it with a pistol grip, butt stock, and go featureless with the kydex grip wrap/bullet button...it would still be illegal per the 922r. This is assuming that the gun has more than 10 import parts. Correct? I assuming the gun has to abide by both federal and state laws regarding AW.

That's what I understand. Once changed from "Original" it must be made 922(r) compliant; even by the end user.

HA!!! See? Toldya it was tricky!

I've searched here, of course, and on other forums, and the responses have been pretty uniform...total confusion. There have been two sides to the discussion: one, change parts out to meet 922(r) as the end user and have peace of mind; two, 922(r) doesn't apply to the end user as it's written, and the end user can change out furniture as he sees fit.
