LR308 build, help me decide its driving me mad.

I have been searching and searching and researching here and google on all the stuff for a lr308 build.

    The things I can't decide.

I have narrowed it to TM lower or a Mega Ma-Ten. Price wise they will end up being close to similar with TM edging out slightly. I think this may end up coming down to personal choice.

Barrels, I really like the 18" bull fluted threaded from DPMS. This one http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=660397

As far as barrels go from what i have learned on here for every inch you gain roughly 15fps. So the 18" should be good to plink steal at 600yds at Angeles?
Is there a reason I should go longer? Is that barrel carbine, mid, or rifle length gas system?

Triggers - RRA 2 stage since, it is listed for the ar-15 but works on "small pin" (I think thats what I read) lower. What does this mean? Will it not work on either of the listed lowers?

Handgaurds - Are they interchangeable between lr308 and AR15? I only see them listed for ar-15s. My handgaurd of choice is the Troy TRX.

Tools - which are interchangeable between 308 and ar15.

I read the 2 different "lr308 muzzle break threads" does the battlecomp blast your neighbor at the range as bad as my mikulek? Couple weeks ago my ar-15 comp blew papers and empty ammo boxes off the guys table next to me Looking for something more tame. BC just looks sweet.

Sorry if any of these questions are too noob. But over the last couple hours of googling my head is spinning.

They both offer a good product, it will more than likely come down to personal prefernce on this part.

Just make sure you stay with the DPMS pattern, they are not compatible with the Armalite pattern.

It's a .308 the only reason why you would not be able to hit steel plates at 600yards from a 16 inch barrel would be a shooter error. That barrel appears to be a midlenth, I could be wrong on that however.

The two different pin sizes refer to the older colts that had different sized tigger and hammer pins. The pin size that works on most AR's will work in the LR308. I have a timney ar-15 trigger group in mine and have not experienced any trigger related issues what so ever.

Handguards are a little tricky, the DPMS and Armalite both have different threading from each other and the AR-15 you have to buy specific hand guards threaded for their respected upper receivers. Here are a few that will work http://www.midwayusa.com/browse/Brow...305***18306***

the LR308 and the ar-15 have an 80% parts comminality, so most tools will work. Unless they are part specific like a handguard wrench.

Yes the thread pitch is different than a ar-15, this was done on purpose so people don't accidently put the wrong muzzle device on the rifle. Wouldn't be much of an issue if you have a .308 muzle brake on a .223 but the other way around would not end well. The battle comp is supposed to redirect the gasses forward to give a more neighbor friendly muzzle blast. I personally use the JP tact brake and just sit a few benches away from people. People show up at the range and first think im being anti-social or just an *** hole by picking things up and moving a lane over until I start firing, then they usually walk over and thank me for being so polite. But I being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softely, because you tread on my dreams.

Well the Tactical Machining is a DPMS based .308/LR-308 type, the MA Ten is SR-25ish (thats the best way to describe it). Both use the same mags, but the receivers are not compatible.

AR-10 barrels and BCGs WILL work on DPMS type uppers. People do it all the time with no problems. And of course, the MA Ten will accept all types of .308 AR barrels and bolts.

If I were you, I would go with a 16" barrel. You will gain maneuverability over an 18" and you wont be sacrificing much range. I shot my 16" 308 LMT at Angeles and hit the 600yd steel with boring consistency and I was also slaying the rocks at the very back of the mountain which is ~~700 yards. 16" is great for all practical ranges.

        Thx Jpach as well.

Can't wait to start looking at scopes...............

I love the TRX! IIRC FUlton and JP make a tube-like free float handguard that you can attach rails to. Those are probably your best bet if you want to stick to that style.
