    Tommy guns?

Are they legal? I don't see them on the banned list and I assume they would be like the off list ARs and AKs. I was thinking of the new M1927 semi-autos. Any legal ways of getting them here?

hmmm are they banned by name or something? I know the ARs and AKs are legal if its an off list receiver and it has something like a bullet button mag release. I didnt see Auto Ordnance on the DOJ website but maybe i missed it.

IIRC there's a Thompson 1927A1 semi-auto only in .22LR; that would definetely be a cool, and CA legal, setup. I beleive it also has the legally required 16" barrel. Only problem is that they're upwards of $1000 and haven't been made for years.

The Thompson sub-machine gun in any form[ semi auto, fixed mag etc] is not on the CA approved list, and thusly a CA no no.
I HAVE seen one or two at the range however, owned by guys who bought them when they still could.

Search, lots of Tommy discussion and you can make it CA legal.

Uh, I thought approved list only applies to pistols? If its not on the BAN list for rifles, then that means its good.

                    Welcome to CalGuns G B the M!

Electric Factory is a little bit confused about the California approved list. Like everybody else has said, the semi-auto "Thompsons" are perfectly legal in California if you make them SB23 compliant before bringing them in.

Pirate14 might even be able to help you out.

I stand corrected. Someone please post a link to the .45acp semi-auto CA-available replica of the Thompson !

I think that Auto Ordnance/Kahr Arms is the only company making Thompsons.

They aren't going to make the rifles California compliant, so you would need to order it through an out of state dealer willing to do the work and then have it shipped to a local FFL who is willing to accept it.

Sounds like a whole lot of hoop jumping. Has anyone here succesfully navigated these waters and [ now] has a CA compliant Thompson ? ?

Cause I will , don't make me do it...

Well I'm very glad to hear they can be made legal I guess I would have to get it without the pistol grips attached and make a tool operated mag release. Basically it's than same deal as with the ARs and AKs. Hey Electric Factory I will have a CA legal one hopefully by late august and I'll post pic's.
