Proper way to shoot with two eyes open

So everyone keeps telling me two eyes is the best way to go, and im always open to try new things. I shoot pistols with two eyes, and shotguns, but rifles I just can't seem to get a proper technique down. At 25yards, I can hit the target, most of my shots are up a lttle and a tad to the right, but at 50yardss I can't even get on paper. Forget trying to shoot 200yards with both eyes open.

I guess I can't get the hang of it, so I was wondering if you fine folks can help me work out a good technique to shoot with both eyes open.

P.s. I shoot just fine when I squint.

For me, 0-50ish yards (less than more) gets two eyes open. everything after that gets one eye shut.

Um...could just be me but I was always taught that two eyes open IS the proper way to shoot. Otherwise do this.

How far out do you shoot with both eyes?

Practice, practice, practice. I concentrate on the target with my dominant eye. My weak eye stays open and I can still see peripheral movement in it, but my focus stays in my dominant eye and the weak eye just fades out a bit.

I'm able to look through regular scopes and hit distant targets, focusing my attention in the crosshair with the dominant eye.

This is about as best as I can explain it for me.

Use a blinder for your weak eye if you have to. I have to admit to squinting but when I shoot a match I use a blinder.

Hmm, weird. For nearly an hour I've sat in my room with an empty gun practicing.

I tried the tape on the eyelens of the safety glasses trick, and it works great, it still works when I take two fingers and cover up half the vision of my left eye, but only if I cover the half closest to my nose, but the minute I take away anything to partially obstruct my left eyes vision, I completly lose my sight picture.

Guess ill just have to keep at it haha.

thats how i shoot when we are on ranges. here in the army. especialy after the first like 5 shots because thats when they start popping 50 and 200 targets at the same time. then 300 n 250. you kinda need both to keep your scan on. our drill sgt told it was good because now this was him talkin, if you keep one eye closed the open eye will start to get tired sometimes and start to lose focus, keeping both open helps you from straining so much. i got it down, it aint THAT hard but it definantly takes practice. i mainly keep them open for scanning, train as you fight.

What kind of sights are we talking about?
I always shoot with one eye closed with irons, both open for red dot.

both eyes open for irons and red dots or anything with no magnification. Once the scopes get magnified I shut one eye

Funny this thread should pop up. I read yesterday that it is better to have both eyes open while aiming. I always shot with one eye closed. I only shot a real gun about 5 times, but in video games I shoot with one eye closed as well. After reading about it yesterday, I used a toy gun to practice with both eyes, but my eyes seem to wander and search around for the front sight and line them up with the rear sights. However, I found that it was easier if I had one eye closed and lined up the sights and then open both eyes. Toy gun because my real one is in gun jail right now. 7 more days!
