Iirc there is an off list model, but the name evades me.

You could always just buy any colt upper and slap it on an oll. Probably cheaper that way.

The 6940 is the one that is supposed to be legal.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

the 6940. But just be aware that the lower receiver on the 6920 and 6940 is identical.

Let Me Google That For You (LMGTFY): for all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than search it for themselves.

The 6940 is touchy, the rollmark is identical to other models which are listed. Do further research if you intend to go with that model, otherwise the link above will give you a quick resource of the two truly off list Colts.

Yep, therefore it's very hard to find a dealer willing to transfer a 6940, even if it comes in NIB with the model number printed on the box. Here's the only Colt that's a truly OLL, the CAR-A3 H-BAR ELITE:

Would I be correct if I said there was no model number on the rifle?

I have one of these. Late version with small take down pins and FA carrier from the factory. There are some variations, the latest ones are best.
It's been a lingering project to say the least. lol! All parts for this built are Colt or Diemaco only. I'm building it from a stripped diemaco m4 upper so it took a while to find a gas tube and delta ring made by Colt that was in stock at the same time.
It will be a UK spec clone when I'm done.

A Colt M4 LE would be pretty bad *** since you need to get a qualified FFL to modify it before you could get it transfered.

No model number on Colt rifles, just the model name; i.e. CAR-A3 H-BAR ELITE is the model name stamped on the receiver for the 6724 and COLTS LAW ENFORCEMENT CARBINE for the 6940 and 6920.

BTW, there is a 6940 for sale on this forum, but again GL in getting it transferred:

If you feel like going to Woodland, Norse Armory will transfer a 6940. They're actually where I heard of them.

IMO with a 6940 lower you're risking a lot for zero gain. There's nothing special about a Colt lower anyway. But if you absolutely MUST have a Colt OLL then get the CAR A3 HBAR Elite. At least that way there's no confusion about whether it's a listed AW.

6940 or 6921. You can special order a 6921 from OC Armory

+1 to this. Of course I'm biased as I did a build with a CMMG lower filled with DPMS parts and A2 stock and topped it off with a Colt 20" HBAR A2 upper with a target crown, 1:7 twist and chrome lined chamber and bore.... for a whopping total of $804
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.
