Finally fired my SCAR 16s yesterday

After having it for almost a month and itching to shoot it, I finally made it out to Chabot up in the Oakland hills. I decided to zero it at the 25 yard line first so I had a better idea of how I was grouping (and where). Then maybe extend out to 50 yards. A couple of friends were helping me spot and I managed to dial into center after about a dozen shots. The target you see below was the first 40 rounds fired out of this rifle off a sandbag. Eventually I was putting everything into the same hole.

I handed it over to my two buddies that were shooting with me so they could get a feel for it. Both grinned ear to ear after the first shot and turned back to me with looks of amazement in their eyes. That's basically how I felt after my first shot with it.

I was kinda worried about buying this rifle cause we all know it's a LOT of money. I coulda built two mid-priced ARs with this money. But after yesterday, I have zero regrets.

Next time, I'm taking it out with my EOTech.

D'oh! We were so caught up on shooting that none of us even thought to take pics of our hardware.

I was really tempted to go to 100 yards but at 50, I was already stretching myself on the irons (I'm really not that good of a shot, hehe). My ballpark estimate would be that 2/3 to 3/4 of my shots were landing within the 9 ring. But my target was just a patchwork of sticky dots by then so I can't say for sure. And at that point, we were pretty much just throwing lead downrange for the fun of it. Spending 6 hours at the range gets kinda tiring.

I Luv the feel of the SCAR the only thing I had to retrain muscle memory for zeroing (so used to pulling back on the AR charging handle to clear and safe) as well as recoil management for multiple engagements (rapid fire) They Shoot real sweet!!!

The other thing was with the charging handle on the left side, not rotating your thumb up on the magazine or you would be kissed by the charging handle. However on the left side makes it easier for charging and clearing the rifle.

For Ammo selection, check out for a heavier grain for distance. It was designed for a heavier bullet, kind of like when they came out with the M16A2 the M855 (62 grain).

Your going to luv your new toy.

One last thing watch out for the bullet over the bolt, you have to disassemble to get them out, not like on an AR where you just have to push the BCG forward. This we think was due to bad mags, not sure but would happen every once in awhile after about 300-500 rounds.

              Enjoy you lucky dog

Hah, I can tell you that only the safe queens are gonna get sold. Anyone who's actually fired their gun will realize it's a keeper. It's really hard to explain but the firing action is so smooth compared to an AR.
