Maybe came across wrong in the reading.

You mentioned 1 of the other methods : file the mag catch on the rifle.

Yeah I did some synapse rendering on doing what the OP
is kicking around for mine some years ago . (Kalashnikov U.S.A. Saiga)

Honestly - if I did, it would be a full conversion that would make Mr. K happy. The flip side is I like it as it is.
If you have a K USA Saiga in CA, that is a registered assault weapon. You need to convert it and make sure the overall length is at 26.25" with every evil feature on the SB23 list.

The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

      fwiw...
      ismash Saiga with flat trunion

20 min slow work with a file, try fitting the 30 rd mag every few strokes of the file material is about a tenth of an inch or less......

and a bullet guide....which was muffed (someone was trying to enlist their 16 yr old in the op...partial fail...bullet guide moded to fit..not a stress part...works great...less filling...

the factory mag still works in the gun in the case I know about...
european 30 rd ak mags work great... much fun bump firing...

      or so I heard...

      check out this...

Greebo, as a matter of feline pride, would attempt to fight or rape absolutely anything, up to and including a four-horse logging wagon. Ferocious dogs would whine and hide under the stairs when Greebo sauntered down the street. Foxes Kept away from the village. Wolves made a detour. Terry Pratchett

no it doesn't...you don't need to cut the spring. a little pressure in the right spot and it pops right in.
