Does anyone have photos of these muzzle breaks on the Yugo to show what is legal and illegal? The above discussion seems a little confusing. Is it such that there is a grenade launcher Under the muzzle break?

The AW flow chart, as well as the DOJ doc say that if the gun has a fixed mag that hold 10 rounds or less, then the Grenade Launcher does not make it an Assult Weapon... the Flow Chart says "Legal"

The last time I checked, the flowchart only dealt with AW's not Destructive Devices. Like SJgunguy24 said, it wouldn't be an AW, but it would be a Destructive Device.

The Penal Code 12301 say's that any launching device is a "Destructive Device", and is illegal. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/di...le=12301-12312

The Public Notice say's that the Zastava SKS Carbine, 59/66, specificly is not legal. http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/zastava.php

It does not say that it is legal if the launcher is remove, it just say's that the gun is illegal... yet, the gun seems to be for sale in California with the launcher removed or replaced with a Brake.

IS THIS GUN LEGAL OR ILLEGAL?

Does removing the Grenade Launcher make it Legal?

The Yugo(Serbian) 59/66A1 is legal, only because the destructive device was removed, and replaced with the muzzle brake, isn't named as an AW, and has no AW features. The Zastava SKS Carbine that they have in the notice is only illegal because of the grenade launcher. It isn't a named assault weapon, and without the launcher it would be legal.

Here is a link to their catalog. It specificly shows that the Yugo 59/66 is NOT FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA.

      Now I'm really confused.

The gun laws in CA have succeeded. That's what they are supposed to do(confuse people into committing felonies)

like you said its defined as a launcher, a destructive device.
they wont sell to california C&Rs because it has a grenade launcher, im pretty sure a warehouse that belongs to big 5 in another state is buying them and taking off the launcher so it can be sold in ca.
just like with the AKs. they take the pistol grip off so they can be sold. its like me, i live in a ga bvecause im in the Army. i can buy all those guns, but they have to be cali legal before i can legally bring them into the state.
Big 5 doesn't have any middleman ffl's or warehouses out of state to perform those mods. We don't even modify anything we sell, nor do we have the means to do so(FFL 07).

The AK's we sell come from the factory without the PG, in fact that's how IO sells those particular rifles(it's named the CASAR, which stands for CAlifornia Semi-Automatic Rifle).

Question for SJgunguy24(you can PM me the answer, although I think I'm on the right track with your thinking). How is the m59/66A1 not an SKS? Is it just like how a Stag-15 is not a Colt AR-15? In other words, it's not an SKS, because it doesn't have SKS stamped anywhere on it? Do other SKS's have the letters "SKS" written on them?

Do not waste your time on one of these rifles. The only way to own one is buy it with a muzzle break, and a bayonet. You really can;t take much off with out breaking laws in California. It is a heavy rifle, more accurate than an AK, but when they were 120 bucks at Turners, they were a deal. I see them now for 300 or so. Save you money and buy an AK--there's less confusion.
