    Anyone know if this is Steel core?

    I cant shoot steel core at my range and i dont want to buy 1000 rounds and not be able to shoot it. I cant find any info on it online. Its Federal American Eagle .223 55gr FMJ and i search google but apparently my google fu isnt all that great. Thanks guys.

    No, shouldn't be. If it were, it is very likely it would be specified as a penetrator; you're good

            The only stuff you'll find that will have a steel penetrator will be 62gr xm855 style stuff. I'm not aware of any other 5.56 with a steel core, as full steel AP is illegal anyways.

                        Also, if you live in LA and you shoot in local ranges, its not just steel core that you have to worry about. Most outdoor ranges out here wont allow steel jacketed bullets either

                            Nope, just be careful when buying though. Typically only russian stuff is steel jacketed nowadays.
