My AR carbine is zeroed in with the red dot sight, but I tried to zero the BUIS and it shoots high, specifically high enogh so that the front sight is rattling around and feels like it's going to fall off if it comes up another click. can you get taller front sights or are they a standard size?

What kind of front and rear sights are you using? And are you trying to get the front sight up to the same height as the red dot in the scope?Originally posted by aplinkerIt's OK not to post when you have no clue what you're talking about. -
Fixed front sights come in two sizes, standard and F. F is for carbines with detachable carry handles and is used most often. My question is what height is your red dot at? Is is a flip us sight? Also if its a railed gas block with a standard flip up sight then it won't work.Last edited by Nathan Krynn; 08-27-2010, 2:38 PM.Comment

Standard triangle front sight. Magpul BUIS mounted on the rail behind the red dot. Couldn't see elevation on the BUS though it was only a cursory check.Comment

I believe F marked front sights are taller and your BUIS is designed to work with that.
If you can't find an F marking on your front sight, that's probably the issue.
I thought the MBUS had elevation adjustment. I could be wrong but read the instruction sheet, magpul seems to be pretty good with illustrations and instructions.Comment

Experience tells me that problems like this are usually human error, and not equipment related. I am not trying to be insulting. I make conceptual mistakes with similar things all the time. Even with a non-F marked front sight post you can find a happy medium between adjusting the sights and adjusting where you line up the front sight post in relationship to the rear apature and where you line it up on the target. Moving your stock further forward might help as well. Eventually you figure it out.
Since it was brought up, I checked. MBUS have windage adjustments only. Not elevation.Last edited by tacticalcity; 08-27-2010, 3:26 PM.Comment

Not insulting at all. I can zero it but the front sight really is wobbly, hence the question about the equipment. I'm not using 6 o'clock "dot the I" hold on the target but POA as POI. Interested in maybe adjusting the stock would change my sighting though.Comment
