Yesterday there was no surf, as in Lake Pacific, so after I closed up my shop I went over to a good friend's home and instead of throwing our boards in a truck and hitting the beach we climbed up on the roof of his house with an AR, a 30-06, and binoculars and shot at ground squirrels on the back forty of his ranch. Though we had no confirmed kills at 300m in a stiff wind, we still had a hoot spotting and shooting.
Later as we sat having a wonderful dinner his Italian wife had made us while we were "pow-ing" (what his 4 year-old brother calls shooting) I reflected on what a simple pleasure it is that some of us enjoy, and that I need to remember this more often.
Perhaps this is a silly post, but at very least it will serve to remind me next time I rest on my laurels when I could be out "pow-ing" with a bro.
