    Hi Cap Magazine Parts

I have some hi-cap magazines in AZ I want to bring back to CA. How far do I need to disassemble to make it legal for CA entry? Can I just remove the floor plate? Can I just remove the spring? I just want to store them dissembled while in CA and then assemble for usage when out of state (where legal). I am hoping I don't need to take them completely apart as I will risk losing parts.

    Thanks!

Its not that big a deal, and to keep track of all the parts its best to completly disassemble them, bag the plates, bag the followers.

What I have done is flipped the spring upside down, put it back inside (no follower), compress it down and slide the plate in. place the followers in a zip lock baggy. Now the magazine can be stored without the springs getting all in the way and tied up.

why I turn the spring. I have had gear snag on the follower hook of the spring and pull the spring out of the mag. turned upside down, the sides of the spring are tight against the feed lips.

I even ship my rebuild kits this way.

now if you are asking how close to a manufacturing charge are you, by keeping the whole magazine assembled, but storing it with the spring pulled out the bottom and the plate held in by the coils of the spring against it....very close.

DoJ could say it was in the process of being assembled. If you didnt make any statements like, "I only use them in AZ"........ "They are only assembled in AZ."...... "I assemble in AZ and disassemble them before coming back." you should be OK.

You are probably confused right now....let me explain.

Strike 1-- You are guilty because the cops arrested you.
Strike 2-- The Police dont get confused, or misunderstand what you say. Your statements can ONLY be used AGAINST you.
Strike 3-- "He told me he assembled and disassembled them all the time, and that he bought them in AZ"
Strike 4-- Its now a "Who do you believe more, this 15yr Officer, or this guy who says he didnt say it that way."

The high cap magazine parts I have are all in ziplock bags. Enough parts in each bag to assemble 1 magazine.
