    Changed Look

Changed some things on my rifle. I like the polymer/classic look. differences are polished carrier, changed out Galil style hand guard with K-Var standard polymer hand guard, Bulgarian 10/30 Ak magazine clip, new gas tube from carolina shooters supply, removed butt pad looked too much like AR style. Cut some of FSB shroud but no threads. Going to have to thread barrel. Will post pics when I have my muzzle brake attached.

It looks like crap. And yes, I'm saying that because I'm jealous and I want one

I'll be working on an AK build when I get some more cash monies.

On the topic of your barrel not being threaded...what year is your saiga? It looks like you have no mag dimples; is it an 08?

Assembled 2/10/09. No dimples, do have PG hole, notches for Lower hand guard retainer, and step in barrel. Took a chance cutting shroud, but muzzle brake is getting on there one way or another.

Classic lines. I like how you used the retainer that came with the Tapco handguard on the Kvar.

I'm nuts when it comes to building guns. This is Svetlana 2.5, and she's not done. I'm going to design a left side charging handle but I need a mill to finish the work.

I went so far as to cut the trigger guard and rivet it on the back side and weld the front to the mag catch tower, it's also been formed to the correct AK profile.

Sweet! That's a mean looking rifle. post some more pics or do you have a previous thread with pics?

Yeah, I had to do some cutting and grinding to get the retainer to work.

This thing has evolved over the last couple of years. Started out as a regular old Saiga. I'm kinda using it as a test bed for ideas. I want to get the overall length down to 30", it sits at 33" right now. It's pretty light even with a 30 locked in and I could knock a bit more weight off if I really wanted.

I see you got the Ultimak setup. I like those. Low profile with plenty of options with rails. Nice job

Thats not an Ultimak. The Ultimak rail sits lower allowing for a co-witness through the optic(the right optic). What tri rail system is that?

Looks good SJgunguy, I like how you welded the front sight to the gas block, chopped down the barrel, and welded a muzzle brake on. Got it nice and short (legally). Dropping that UTG rail will definitely save some weight..

But OP, your Saiga looks good too. Get rid of that Raddlock though. And how is the Tapco handguard retainer working? Is it solid?

I'm seriously thinking about cutting that rail down. Not sure if I need a mill for that, need the mill for the left side charging handle. When I get back on my feet a little better I'll head down for a weekend and finish her up. Then we can try some night fire, this thing is way louder then it was before, I'll bet it throws one hell of a fireball.

Not having the TIG puts a bit of a damper on my experimenting also. My MIG does a good job but the heat control is so much better with the other process.

Thanks. I wish I could get rid of raddlock, someday hopefully. As far as retainer its good. Better than I expected. Retainer and hand guard metal had to be cut and ground to fit. I was concerned about vertical movement of hand guard but luckily it pretty stationary. Retainer tightens with a screw at top that probably took care of it moving vertically.
